The point of a car is to take you from point A to point B. Any time in between is self-justification for how to spend that time productively.
In the old days, that in between time was justified by how much the car would shake and how loud it could be to give you a sense of feeling, a soul of a car, so to speak. By late 90s, the "soul" of the car was basically being phased out. What we get in the late 90s and early 2000s was smaller and quieter cars, this led to better quality audio systems that allowed people to enjoy their time in leisure while they drive.
Now we're seeing a phase where if self driving works as promised, we can spend that in between time playing games, browsing /o/, sleeping, having sex, etc. We're not there yet, I think it will take another 5+ years for fully trustable system.
But overall the point of a car is to get from point A to point B. Just like the point of walking to get from point A to point B.
