Btw, most japanese anime and manga has terrible, terrible writing but it probably has appeal because it is a consistent method to detach from reality and explores childlike fantasies.

The writing isn't bad because it isn't realistic enough. It's just unsophisticated and unoriginal like children are in charge of plotlines and character development. And every story is a fucking copycat of something already made. This is coming from someone who regularly watches anime as a TV replacement. Anime is trash, and so is junk food. But junk food has its own appeal. I don't see any reason to engage with anime when I'm not eating a meal. I can't imagine setting aside time for anime by itself. It's just better than the shit show of Western television.

Reminder that even Isekai genre is a copycat of American novel series John Carter which was written about a 100 years ago and is about an ex confederate cavalry officer being warped off to Mars.

They just don't export those garbage because
1. They are copies of Japanese/Korean industries which are also hilarious copies of Western works
2. Their domestic market is gullible, protected and big enough so that selling copied garbage generates enough guaranteed revenue.
There is no incentive for the Chinese to culturally create nor compete within the foreign market when their market is enclosed.

There are manga in China called manhua, but most of them are badly wuxia stories, sometimes mixed with isekai. If you read one, then you already read them all.

I am Chinese but Korea has been stolen our culture for a long time, which caused many Chinese dislike. I respect Japanese culture and their Bushido spirit but Korea is a fuckin clown in entertainment, of which K-pop is a thief of American hiphop industry. True original entertainment industries are America, Japan. Korea pop is like Jpop with more hiphop and dance. C-pop is literally no band culture but highly single vocals singing love songs or similar stuffs, from Taiwan and HK, where exports lots of Chinese influences to the world.

We used to have very unique anime style, which Hayao Miyazaki would come to Beijing to study and communicate with. But nowadays, our entertainment is full of Japanese, American influences, etc.
