Dunno who this Lawson guy is (I probably should), but he and Albon brought a bunch of new viewers to DTM, had a pretty good season due to favourable BOP, quick pit stops and getting really lucky with penalties (or rather lack of them).
But what these (mostly international) new viewers didn't know is manufacturers have been willing to pull all kinds of shit to win DTM since forever, like having a lapped car knock a championship contender around:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vd2ifRPbZCU
(vid is so long because there's revenge)
Same guy pulling the exact same stunt 5 years later, this time in the grey Opel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_CHLaZyizo
The rest of the season was pretty good though (admittedly I haven't really watched DTM before), GT3 sprints with single drivers and higher stakes than usual is a decent combo imho. BOP was alright after the first few races, only BMW got screwed out of fighting for the championship by a boost reduction in the last rounds. Next year we'll see a few more pros on the level of Wittman and KVL in Audis, BMWs and Lambroghinis, maybe a few Porsches moving over from GT Masters well.
