Perhaps this "Chapter Master" wasn't a chapter master of our progenitors, but served as the first Chapter Master of our marines?

I mean, I figure when they make a new Chapter from Scratch the Chapter's leadership elements, Marines who are supposed to have massive experience and wisdom, have to come from somewhere, probably volunteer transfers from a related chapter.

Doubles doubles everywhere the Emperor must've winked.

First Doubles! Attack Pattern:

More likely the battle psyckers of the Psykana whenever they engage in mental duels that involve the creation of largescale dreamscapes.
You know, that old schtick.

Though I'd imagine that there are legends of fallen sleepymarines who now fight alongside the emperor in eternal slumber.
Which would probably make Dreadnaughts the hardest motherfuckers in the entire chapter. As they're basically guys who spend century after century of fighting alongside the emperor only to be occaisionally called to beat things up in the real world. Which to them must seem like a nice relaxing holiday.

Must have high renown and die heroically.
Swap out S, T, and Ag for basic dread stats (Strong, Tough, and NOT Nimble). Take massive penalties to skills like concealment, move silently, shadowing, etc.
Weight of Years: Whenever the dread wants to use an Int or Fel skill, he must roll equal or under Int bonus. If he fails, he can't remember the info or related knowledge, and can't use said skill until he is 'awakened' again.
Special dread advance table, the dread is limited to these advances and a few others from his original specialty (it gives a list).

Oddly enough, their gene seed bears a strange Catapesean Node mutation that causes long bouts of sleeplessness alternating with long coma-like rests. This mutation would almost be unremarkable except for the chapter's close connection to the Scholastica Psykana. It is said that the Marines continue to fight on even in their long rests battling the machinations of the Warp alongside the Psykana. Some Marines even awaken to claim to have fought side by side with the Emperor himself. These claims have attracted the attention of certain members of the Inquisition, and not always for the better...

Watch in the days to come, I hope to expand on this even more.

We can't do yellow, as that's taken by the Hawk Lords, but I don't just wanna slap black on there because it might be too dark.

That would look too much like the Mechanicum's symbol. I would suggest a raven clutching an hourglass or an hourglass interposed over a raven.
