>>14629487I was thinking about terminators and I'm curious to see what you guys think of this idea.
One of the well established chapter traits is that the Nightmares only deploy termies in very limited numbers. Each Primus company has 10 suits, and the other 5 are held in reserve as bodyguards for the Wake.
So if a squad of 5 terminators shows up in a battle, it means that one of the Primus companies is taking part, even if the other 99% is made of Secundus units. This fits the fluff as the EN seems to prefer deploying companies in pairs.
So here is what I was thinking:
- Normally only one squad of 5 terminators may be taken in an army. All Nightmare terminators may equip themselves with tactical or assault equipment. Including a single heavy weapon in each squad.
- HQ choices such as the Captain, Librarian or Chaplain may also don a suit of terminator armour.
- For every Primus Captain in your army, you may deploy a single command squad in terminator armour. This consists of the company champion and two veterans. Up to 2 more veterans may be added so long as the total number of deployed suits among the command staff does not exceed 5.
- If your army contains either Adjutant, you may also deploy the chapter honour guard in terminator armour.
- Terminator squads in your army may combine into a single unit. This is a permanent action.
As far as fluff goes this checks out.
- 10 terminators on the table means that the Captain in charge decided to use all the men at his disposal.
- 15 terminators on the table indicates that multiple Primus companies are taking part in the battle. OR the chapter honour guard has been deployed at the order of one of the Adjutants.
Seems fair to me. 5 is a far cry from the 30 you could otherwise deploy using the default codex. And while you can get up to 15 you have to justify it by using specific and expensive HQ units. Their small numbers are also mitigated someone by the boosted stats.
