- Naturally all the psykers on the planet meet up to try to figure out what the hell is going on. They band together for protection, and it is discovered that daemons defeated in the Dreaming are in fact from the "local" warp. Hence making all psychic activity on the planet safer.
- At this point the inquisition is called in. The Nightmares have a couple points in their favour:
1. They called the conclave in by themselves, and support full disclosure.
2. Some very very high ranking astropaths as well as the local choir are all firmly behind them.
3. The Ordo Xenos finds no evidence of alien influence at all.
4. The Ordo Hereticus basically agrees with the astropaths once they finish their own investigation.
5. The Ordo Malleus is suspicious as all hell. But admits that no Daemon has been able to manifest and thus can't be "quantified". No taint or evidence of the warp exists on Icelus itself. So they defer to their colleagues.
As a result of the conclave the Nightmares agree to closer scrutiny. This results in the formation of a Scholastica Psykana in Hive Tertius. And the regular visit of a Hereticus Black Ship bringing students for the school.
As well the chapter maintains two standing positions within the Deathwatch. Since other marines may volunteer at any time, the chapter may have more than 2 marines serving at any one time. This explains the close relationship between the ordo and the chapter. And also explains why the Nightmares have so much alien fighting experience, despite being a standing force protecting a local sphere of influence.
Now given the fact that all of this began more than a millenia in the past. Most of the facts and proceedings about the Nightmares will have been locked in sealed inquisition archives. This is why younger inquisitors are more suspicious of the chapter. And why "rumors of fighting daemons in the warp" are so prevalent.
