Ah, there you are.

Let's try and move away from the circular argument of the last thread.
I have two ideas, either the chapter timeline...avoiding the formative years...or more on the NPC's of Icelus.

Re-posting some ideas that didn't get commented on:
2nd and 8th company on an industrial world against Khaliman-sponsored, heavily-armed, heretics. The two decided to unleash the rarely seen tactic of 10 Icelus dreads.

4th and 6th + 1st company reinforcement on a space hulk infested with tyranid and genestealers. First contact of the tyranid by the Nightmares

3rd and 6th on a fallen fortress world on the border of the Veiled Region. Massive siege. Infiiltration failed. Captain Leander Nyseos refuses to call on sleepless. Captain Arkanden Varykai does so anyway without Nyseos knowing. Despite the victory, Nyseos feels betrayed by Varykai.

2nd company and a special contingent of Raven Guard. Deep into the Veiled Region to recover a lost Raven Guard relic. The two travel to planet covered in xenotech ruins. They find the relic only to discover the ancient xenos, a vicious, partially incorporeal race is still alive. They fight their way off the planet, relic in hand, and bombard as much of the planet as they can from orbit. The Raven Guard are extremely grateful for the assistance.

8th and 9th company, an unusual pairing to take down a growing Ork Waagh across 4 planets at the same time. The plan goes off fantastically with the Waagh imploding in on itself before it could begin.

5th and 7th are sent to the aid of a hive world under assault by dark eldar bordering the Veiled Region. 7th manages to halt the dark eldar advance by matching the xenos strike for strike while 5th succeeds in a raid to knock out the xeno's webway gates. Less than half of the fleeing dark eldar raiders make it through the webway before it collapses.

What was so circular about it? We hashed out a lot of good stuff. We just need to archive it on the wiki, otherwise people will eventually come around asking the same questions. Now that would be circular.

As to the events they seem decent enough. They could perhaps be expanded a bit to detail just why they were worth noting. The unspoken implication is that there is a ton of other stuff going on between listed events.

I thought we might confirm the color palate for the Sleepless. At least those who came from Primus.

I'm no artist, and so I couldn't figure out how to get the exact color scheme, but I got it as close as I could.

Basically what happens is a marine retains whatever paint scheme he had when he was diagnosed with sleeplessness. So a primus marine would still be purple and gold, a night owl would be black, and a secundus marine would be dark purple.

The mark of a sleepless is to have white shoulder trim. Some of them go further and paint other parts of their armour like the helmet or shinguard. There is no standardized pattern, except for the shoulder trim which they all share.

Another reason they might paint other parts of the armour white is that once you carve over the shoulder trim you expose the ceramite and the white markings disappear.

As much as I do like the idea of seeing the company of Sleepless, all with their own unique sections painted white, I just know someone will come around asking, "Why don't they paint it all white and become ghosts?" Or that people will confuse the white helmet with that of an apothecary.

A standardized color scheme simply to prevent stupid questions later.

Because they are not supposed to be ghosts or anything like that. The white just indicates that they are under the care of the apothecarion. Actually making them stark white would make them all look like apothecaries.

The shoulder trim IS the standard. On all colour schemes it stands out very well. Any further colouring is a personal choice.

But that's the thing. I don't know of any other chapter in all of 40k that allows for any part of the armor to be painted, "By personal choice". The personal choice part I felt was better personified in the detailed carvings each sleepless would place onto his armor.

Not all sleepless opt for armour carving. Just like how not all sleepless paint more than the shoulder trim white. Its just personal preference, and the regulations allow for that much.

All of the chapters that allow marines to work on thier own gear like Blood Angels or Salamanders do give marines a little leeway in armour decoration. So its not strange at all, as long as they stick with white and don't colour more than half of the armour.

I was doing a little fluff generation in my head and I realized that we have no idea what Hive Primus looks like.

Its built onto a curving land bridge, so kind of like Hoover Dam only kilometers wide. Instead of one spire like Necromunda there would be multiple spires all set in an arc. Instead of an acid sump at the bottom of the underhive, the acid would drain into a huge lake on the inner side of the curve.

I was thinking that too only in addition to going down into the crevasse, it stretched up as well, such that where the originally land bridge was is approximately the mid-point on the hive vertically. The land bridge would be where the largest train lines would go into and out of the city.

When you think about it, Hive Primus is shaped just the way you would want for it to be a train terminal. The ends of the hive are where the entrances are, so trains would be able to climb very gradually before entering the bridge and docking in one of the many tunnels.

All traffic coming from the south must go around the acid lake. The north face is also a sheer cliff, so hive Primus is very well protected by the terrain.

Hell yes. The cargo trains run underground and are heavily armoured. If anyone interferes with them the PDF will come running, so not much happens to them.

Passenger trains are separate from cargo trains and generally run on the surface instead. Some of the train cars are armoured and have turrets on them in case of boarders.

Privately owned land trains run the gamut, and if you are a passenger with a gun you tend to get drafted into defending the train against raiders.

I'm also imagining that the PDF would have several land battleship to use as roving outposts in the wasteland. Static outposts are not as useful. IIRC they do have these in canon in some form or another. The Gaunt's Ghosts series mentiones a Leviathan command crawler which has tracks and is large enough to house several regiments.

I was just thinking of that as you mentioned it.

Though I feel there'd be various levels of comfort between the train barons and the PDF. Some of the barons may feel more comfortable using their own security forces instead. Whether or not this is legal would be an interesting debate.

"official" trains, as in those run by the government or train baronies run on tracks laid down between the hives.

Private trains generally use wheels or tank tracks to move around and can go places the train tracks don't. Those that do run on tracks tend to use private or abandoned lines, but they tend to be less well maintained.

Works. Maybe give details with the dreamwalkers struggling with the utterly alien minds-capes of the Tyranids for the first engagement? For 3rd and 6th, note that said deployment resulting in several "friendly fire" casualties, giving more of a reason for the feeling of betrayal? Remember Mr. Kool Aid Sleepless Terminator? In addition to the trim painted white, we had decided very early that the infinity symbol on the chapter icon gets painted white and the sands are painted to have run out. There's a picture on the wiki.

The friendly fire makes sense, but having Theuros appear seems too much. If he shows up, he's going to be the center of attention. Also, we already have an incident where his appearance ruined a 5th and 9th company strike against the dark eldar.

How about a strike against an Ork WAAAGGHH than ends in utter confusion when a lone Terminator somehow noisily slaughters the Warboss and his Nobs before the Secondus Nightmares can get to him? The scouts and strike force are discovered in the subsequent brawl, and barely escape with their lives. On the other hand, the Warboss was quite dead and the WAAAGGGH died with him.

So for Planet #2 and the biggest warboss, we have a Kool Aid affair and not as planned, and while the rest of the campaign goes as planned, there are reports of a trail of destruction sown across the ork holdings in the subsector. Coincidentally, Theuros was last believed to have been sighted attacking a teleporta grid connected to an Orkish vessel in orbit.

Any other ideas for interactions with other chapters? Here's a list of chapters that I feel would be close by.

Raven Guard, Crimson Fists, Knights of Gryphonne, Marines Exemplar, Red Talons.

Plus any other fleet-based chapter would be good as well.
Is there any sort of gathering of successors that the Raven Guard do in the same manner of the Imperial Fists?

Yes, but I was wondering if there was any information on them beyond the Feast of Blades, which is the Imperial Fists equivalent. It'd be interesting to write of such an event, where say once a millenium, the raven guard successors get together.

3000 odd years of working in the deathwatch would make the chapter pretty well-travelled among the imperium. Contact with battle companies from other chapters would be comparatively rare.

As to the Ravens, I'm not sure. They seem to be on pretty good terms with their successors. They don't have many of them to begin with.
