It takes a long while to clean up and prepare an archival dissemination. Excelsus: A Midsummer Knight's Dream is a Dark Heresy game where the players are soldiers for hire, working for a mercenary guild on the hive world of Nemi in the Tiji Sector. Things change, however, when they accept the job of a lifetime - to locate and verify an ancient cache of archeotech known only as "Excelsus."

Outside the windows of the Kau'run room, the blue glow of ZFR Hyperspace can be seen. It's been many days of travel on the sudden itinerary shift, and moods across the Quarter vary. Some are concerned. Others are ecstatic.

Soon, the ship will reach the Scar.

The Quarter has returned to its normal bustle, it seems, with the sound of gunfire augmenting the screams of pain in the sky. The pyramidal Ministry of Truth glows as the single point of reference, amongst the low-lying buildings in the quarter.

As "morning" comes via synthetic deck-lights and the adjustment of windows to the outside, Ophilia hears a rustling in her room. Surveying her surroundings, she notes Meg the slave sweeping the floor. Her weapons are arrayed to one side, and her gear in a neat pile. She interrupts Meg for morning breakfast, and the two head down to see the day's specials. Wolf also awakens, making his way down while wearing his new pelted cape like a cringe-worthy superhero, stiff from sleeping in powered armor. Bekowski is already awake, relaxing with a corner view of the Ministry. Ophilia has a giggle at Wolf, before taking a seat.

"I'm gonna check out the Entertainment plaza, seeing if I can get a few things done now that our mission is winding down," says Wolfhound, "Can you guys believe we've made it this far?"
"The succeeding, sure. It's what we do," Ophilia replies proudly, "The sights are a little harder to reconcile with reality."
"We still got a ways to go," Bekowski advises, "Just make sure not to blow your cash all in one place, Wolf."
"Yeah, sure." Wolf moves on, making his way toward the Entertainment quarter.

Wolfhound takes the gravity lifts up to the Entertainment Quarter, which is completely busy. The ultra-rich of the sector in their best finery freely cavort around the collections of casinos, nightclubs, and high-class restaurants. There's the occasional bit of construction, but most everything is open, alongside heavy security. Everyone is just flitting between the casinos and clubs. Lights are kept dim, while neon signs stand out in the darkness. He searches for a high class clothing store, and finds one named the Or'es'mon'at. Wolfhound is rebuffed, however, when the bored shopkeeper does not wish to buy his gifted cape.

Most of the clothing on hand is fine dresswear for the rich who frequent this deck. Some shimmer like camoline. Others are treated with chemicals to always make them shine. Either way, the lowest of the prices Wolf sees, for a small hat, was about 200,000 thrones. Things only go up from there.

Wolfhound shakes his head. "Yeah, whatever. I'm gonna buy this place one day, you'll see." He turns away and leaves the district, uninterrupted but for the eyes of the guards.

Meanwhile, back at Res'var's, the grills are going full-blast, the smoke obscuring some sort of sizzling meat.

"Today's special is the anuk'va," says Res'var, "and today's drink is the Afternight Wonderland."
"I'll have both," says Bekowski.
"Got any recaf?" asks Ophilia.
Res'var takes a moment, cutting up the sizzling meat and passing it around.
"So, looking forward to the Scar?" he asks.
"Can't say that I know much about it..." says a concerned Ophilia, "What's the deal there? I heard something about stars going nova?"
"Eh, it's probably nothing to worry about," Bekowski shrugs, "I'm sure that aside from whatever caused it, everything is as normal as you can be in a post-apocalyptic environment."
"So the usual, then? Great..." She sets about cleaning a pistol. Meg quietly eats her food, waiting on Ophilia's every word.

Res'var sets some drinks down.
"Nobody know what's up with it," says Res'var, "One day, 33 years ago, everything in that sector just went poof. I was there 8 years ago on a raid. It creeped out even our normally fearless allies."
A nearby Kabalite eating the day's special flips Res'var the bird, to which he returns with an alien gesture.
"Who were you working with there?" Bekowski asks.
"Uh, that sounds weird," says Ophilia, "I actually am a little excited to see this place now..."
"I was with a Detachment sent out on a special mission out there," says Res'var, "I had just made Shas'nel, and we landed on this dead forge world. Real fun place."
"Fun-fun, or 'fun'-fun?" Ophilia presses.
"Survivors were all crazy, kept goin' on about some 'Hellstar'..." Res'var sighs, "They made good target practice for a boring afternoon.
"Crazy cultists? Huh, the more things change..." laughs Bekowski.
"Anyway, we did our duty to House and Wallet, and left," says Res'var, "Funny thing though, I think our next destination is Mechanicus again. Some secret station or something."

"Okay... either I risk my ass another time to make 3,000 thrones before we uh... complete this mission, or one of y'alls gonna lend me some," he demands.
"Whaddya need it for?" Bekowski asks, eyes raised.
Ophilia nods, her mouth full. "What he said?"
"Real nice way of askin', ya got there," Res'var laughs, cleaning off his tools.
"I gotta update my gun, I'm going big. After last mission, I wanna be able to defend myself from whatever comes at me," Wolfhound explains.
"Eh, join the line," says Bekowski, "I'm thinking of grabbing a nice power fist soon enough."
"Yeah? Well I've had this gun since...a long fucking time. It's probably going to break down and I don't want that to be during a mission," Wolfhound continues, "Since we did that raid on Nemi, that noble?"
"I might want to take a leaf out of you guys' books and make with the autofire..." Ophilia considers, "Single-target assassination doesn't seem to suit our jobs so well lately."
"Damn, feels like forever ago that the least of our worries was how to bust open some noble's villa..." Bekowski muses nostalgically.
"Well, I'll go talk to Vath," Wolf finishes, "Hope he's not applying his 'sacred oils' or something like that, know what'm sayin'?"
"Thanks for the mental image, Wolf..." sighs Bekowski.

"I know how you feel," says Res'var, "Seems like just yesterday we were raiding exotic locales for slaves and plunder, now here we are running a kau'run. Wouldn't trade it for anything though."
"Plunder's always nice, but it's a pleasure having your Kau'Run here." She toasts Res'var with her Recaf.
Bekowski echoes the toast with a raised glass of Afternight Wonderland.
"We saw it all, from the Slann ruins of Cu'ba, to the sector's capital, Rechner," says Res'var wistfully, "I remember...all those slave boats fit to burst 8 years ago. Still, I'm living the dream here."
There's a quiet calm in the storm of activity, everyone caught in their memories.
"But anyway, I think we'll be leaving ZFR Hyperspace soon," says Res'var, "The Detachments are readying for a lightning raid. Might watch them depart for old times' sake."

"Hey!" says Wolfhound, unusually friendly.

"Yeah, uh... I've been doing something like that for years." Wolfhound's tone turns into a rare solemness, "But uh, we've made it this far, I guess."
Vathrek turns to Wolf, annoyed at being disturbed by someone who hasn't been the most pleasant of people to him.
"Was there something you required assistance with?" he asks.
"Yeah actually. I wasn't able to put a single dent into that thing that near blew me in half, I got to update to a bigger gun if this Scar's reputation lives up," says Wolfhound.
"What little records I have indicate that your best options for dealing with things of that scale are heavy las or plasma-based weaponry, though excessive solid projectile fire might do the job eventually," Vathrek states.
"I got something in mind. I'm gonna need 3,000, though. Rest aren't gonna lend me much," Wolf requests.

"It doesn't occur to you that I am not well inclined to do so either, given the limited and antagonistic nature of our previous discussions?"
Wolfhound looks away for a few moments, looking back at Vathrek with a reply. "Uh, well, I mean... I've had my ups and down with like all of you, and sometimes it's hard for me to express myself so I can properly--differi--cate?"
"what did you intend to acquire?" Vathrek inquires, continuing to gather information.
"I was thinking of gettin' one of those chain-guns, an assault cannon or something," Wolf explains.
"I might point out that that seems inefficient, versus the raw killing power of high-energy weaponry, given the most recent threats we have faced," Vathrek states helpfully.
"Man, I don't know how to use that kinda stuff. I've considered it for a while and think it would work more than well enough," Wolf says desparately, "I got a bad feeling about this last fragment, It'd be best if I was going to come out of this with all my body in the same place."
"I will give your request some consideration, on the condition that you try to be a bit more open with our Fireteam, for instance the substance abuse problem I suspect you have been concealing," Vathrek finishes. He tosses Wolfhound some doses of Obscura, and returns to his meditation.
Wolfhound hesitates, "I uh, err... listen I'll deal with that later, right? Now it looks like there's some shit brewing, so I'd rather be ready now than later."

Everyone suddenly feels the battleship shudder, and after many weeks the blue glow of ZFR Hyperspace fades into realspace. The ship continues shaking, however it now seems more akin to impacts than the normal deceleration. In addition, a graviton data codec call goes out to the entire ship, everyone's fields of vision locking onto the visual feed. Bekowski accidentally jams the fork full of food into his neck after losing sight of it, eliciting an annoyed grunt. A familiar Tau in full combat panoply stands at what appears to be a ship's bridge.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Shas'o speaking, I hope everyone's well," he says, "We've arrived in the Scar, and are under attack from Mechanicus secutor cruisers."
The Tau has a seat calmly.
"They will be dealt with shortly. My mission today is to investigate the outpost they are guarding," he continues, "All Detachments report to the Kabal Fortress for outfitting and armament. For anyone wishing to tag along and score some kills yourselves, Transportation is available for a nominal fee."
A cruiser explodes in the background.
"Happy hunting!" says Korst'la VII, as the codec call ends.

Bekowski focuses on the last data fragment, realizing it's on a Mechanicum station the vessel is rapidly heading towards. Everyone gathers their things, Ophilia loads Meg up with gear, and they head towards the docks. Outside, a number of armed layabouts are rushing to the grav-lifts, propelled by the dreams of owning archeotech and looting a Mechanicus outpost.

Caught up in the great wave of eager guns, the Fireteam make their way to the lifts. Some were unlucky, and they can see the bodies of a pair of dead tau, stripped down, as everyone rushes forward. Incidentally, they look familiar - the Fireteam is pretty sure they saw those two on the dropship when they first came here.

"Just remember what we did last time we fought these fuckers," says Wolfhound.
"...run screaming?" Ophilia jokes, poking Vathrek.
"A reminder of the weakness of the flesh, one I rectified quickly," Vathrek sighs. He never will be allowed to live it down.

The Fireteam all also pass by a great viewing garden, a number of people watching the battle on great holoscreens, the Old Couple amongst them, sitting on a bench. Lucius greets them, but can only ask for good luck before the waves carry him away.

"Let's hope fuck we got these Astartes from last time, maybe I could show them how it's done!" says Wolfhound pridefully.
Bekowski gapes at Wolf's statement, wondering how one could consider their skills greater than those of an Angel of Death. Eventually, the Fireteam reach the docks.

Lucius pushes up next to Ophilia, "How is the girl?"
"Well enough. Thick shell, but I'm hoping she relaxes with time," says Ophilia.
Meg remains silent, holding Ophilia's hand and her gear tightly.

The Fireteam select one of the few Phantomfish who through their antics they HAVEN'T upset the pilots of. The pilots accept the money of Lucius, Ophilia, Vathrek, and Bekowski, who board without incident. Wolfhound, however, walks up agressively towards the boarder, cracking his knuckles menacingly, intimidating the Tau. The Tau steps back, and the grav-lift disengages. The Phantomfish's nose-mounted Pulse Autocannon turns, firing a series of blasts directly at Wolf. He, however, narrowly dodges, but the angry copilot refuses to have anything more to do with the gue'la in power armor.

"Analysis: Heightened aggression and willful ignorance of inherent risks, substance abuse causing reduction in both performance and battlefield reliability. final determination: not a reliable weapons platform," Vathrek declares privately, resolving not to loan Wolf out the money.

Wolfhound finds he needs to find another transport, and buys aboard an almost full one at a hiked-up cost. Bitter about the whole experience, he rides silently onward.

"Wolf, you still breathing?" asks Ophilia over codec, "What the fuck happened?!"
"Have you learned something from your near atomization?" Lucius prods.
Wolfhound is panting, "...Yeah, I guess uh, shouldn't try something like that again. I'll meet you guys station-side."
"Good," Lucius continues, "'Cause you still owe me 1100 thrones."
"I dunno. I wasn't thinkin' straight," sighs Wolfhound, "The whole cape and the armor... I dunno, sorry guys."
"Better bolt that head on tighter, you could have died there," Bekowski adds.

In the void, Studio 69 duels against a number of Mechanicum cruisers. The Phantomfish are agile, and eventually dodge their way through the station's defenses, and land in the landing bays along the side. The Fireteam's Phantomfish, are part of the second wave. Detachments of Tau and Dark Eldar are visible, clearing out a landing zone for reinforcements. Pulse and blaster fire clear out the bay, and the Fireteam's Phantomfish grav lifts release for their own deployments. The Pulse Autocannons fire off a few clearing shots before everyone deploys. Ultimately, most of the House Detachments leave on their own business, letting the remainder of the guns pick their own targets and paths.

The Fireteam reunites on a rusty, musty landing bay. Everything's dull metal, and pocked with energy fire.
"We killing cogboys again today, then?" She sighs, muttering, "Heresy ahoy..."
Vathrek attempts to get a better sense from his augur array, but high solar radiation is interfering with it.
Bekowski checks target range, and determines their objective is deeper in the station. "Alright, so into the depths we go," he says.

Taking one of the doors, the Fireteam begin to traverse the halls of the Mechanicus outpost. Covering the walls is the cog of the Omnissiah, and prayers to Him written every so often. The place is built to function, with little in the way of amenities.

"Vathrek. Got any idea what to expect here? Any insight would be fucking useful," Wolfhound demands.
"There will be automated defenses, as with any Mechanicum Installation, it is possible I might be able to deactivate some of them, however there will be some that will need to be forcibly removed."
Vathrek pauses a moment, and reviews the heraldry on the walls. He squints at one of the symbols hard. It turned out to be dust. He squints at another set. Two additional sets of heraldry are, in addition to the normal Mechanicum heraldry, the sigils of the Legio Cybernetica, and the heraldry of Mars itself.

"Not good," says Vathrek.

Reaching a crossroads, with choices of left, right, and forward, Ophilia flips a coin, getting heads.

"Straight on 'til plunder," says Ophilia running forward, Meg following to the best of her ability.
"Wait, why'd you flip a coin if there are three choices?" Bekowski asks.
"Because it was faster than the alternative," she shrugs.

Heading forward, the Fireteam appear to be in some sort of observatorium. The wreckage of scientific apparati litter the ground. There is a great window out to spess. Of such, three things can be determined.
One: The Fury Interceptors of the Mechanicum dueling with the House Raptor Fighters and Startide Interceptors.
Two: The flaring core of a burning star, being covered in some sort of metallic shell. Every so often it lets out a pulse, and the Fireteams' Auspexes static a bit.
Three: A dull blue torch in one corner.

"Welcome!" says the Merchant, "Got a selection of good things on sale, stranger..."
"Hey, just the man we were looking for!" yells Bekowski.

Ophilia giddily hands over thrones for a set of Synskin for Megh and some stummers. Vathrek upgrades to Dragon Scale power armor, and acquires synthmuscle graft and a power fist. Bekowski continues pimping out his grenade launcher, but also gets synthmuscle and a power fist. Lucius picks up a power shield and power axe, and some explosive ammo for his autocannon.

Wolfhound is less than enthused that Vathrek won't give him the money. Ophilia, however, spots him the remainder he needs to finally acquire an Assault Cannon.

The Merchant turns behind some wreckage. "Heh heh heh, thank you..." he says, "Come back any time."

>Archival Note: I allow a 15 minute window of buying things, to speed things along. Wolf technically missed this window by 1 minute and 10 seconds. It was only because a few of the players interceded on his behalf via private message that he was able to buy things. The contents of such private messages were not cleared for archival, and will remain private.

Megh plays in the broken glass wreckage, tossing bits of glass into each other, as the Fireteam brag about their newest purchases.

Wolfhound wields his new found Assault Cannon with renewed vigor, despite previous events which may have dismayed him. "I'm ready to kill those fuckers!"
"...which ones, exactly?" Ophilia asks, "This ain't our fight."
"Aye, and make some money to pay back all your loans," Bekowski snickers, "Don't want to end up like the Squats."

The Fireteam continue on, heading right. The Fireteam follows a lonely hall, to a control deck. It looks over a large motor pool. There is a security terminal in said deck. Down in the hall, House Detachments on one side are fighting Mechanicum secutors and adsecularis on the opposing side. On each sides are very tall things Vathrek can't identify. He decides to simply hack the terminal, and work from there. Eventually gaining full access to the security terminal, Vathrek reviews the contents.

"I have found some automata controls, and am assuming direct control," says Vathrek. He retasks the active Thanatar to support the House troops, over his Mechanicus brethren.
"Good on ya, now kick their asses!" yells Bekowski.

The Thanatar begins to stir, much to the celebration of the Secutors, and consternation of the Detachments. However, that is soon reversed as the Thanatar opens up with a plasma mortar barrage on the Mechanicus soldiers, wiping out most of them. A wave of Mauler Boltcannon fire solves the rest.

Ophilia giggles at the Secutors' crushed hope.
Bekowski fist pumps at the sight, exclaiming, "Purge the here-" He cuts himself off upon realizing what he was about to say.

The detachments continue, but Vathrek suddenly get a force feedback, out of the system. The Thanatar shakes for a moment, and then punches its way through the halls. It's gone berzerk. It makes its way out, through the punched doors.

"Vath... That thing didn't just gain smartness or something right?" asks Wolf apprehensively, looking down into the Thanatar shaped hole in the wall.
"I have heard rumors of automata going bezerk before," Vathrek admits, "It never ends well."
"Welp, into the breach..." sighs Ophilia.
"And to think i nearly retired. Let's move out," sighs Lucius.

Rushing into the breach, the Fireteam eventually come across a large hole in the ground. It seems the Thanatar blasted its way through to a lower level. Past the hole is a set of transparent access ways, leading further in. The Fireteam traverse the hall, when they hear the sounds of battle below. The Rogue Thanatar is bashing its way through Detachment and Mechanicus alike, who are still shooting at one another.

However, something even larger kicks down an opposite door.

"Take your bets now!" yells Lucius.

The black and blue Riptide, and blood red Thanatar catch each others' attention, while a number of Kabalite Trueborn move in from on high via grapnel.

"Three on the Eldar," says Ophilia.

The Riptide fires its Ion Accelerator and Pulse Disintegrators at the Thanatar, distracting it and doing insignificant damage. The Trueborn, led by an Archon, grapnel up to the back of the Thanatar's "neck," and fire point blank Dark Lance fire into its back, where the cortex core resides. The Thanatar stumbles and falls, as the Riptide moves to cover the Trueborn with its shield. The Kralic Maneuver, an operation developed by the House's premier Detachment for taking down gargantuan creatures, is successful, and the House forces continue on, on their own inscrutable mission.

"Dammit! Don't let mankind down, get up!" Bekowski yells at the Thanatar.
"I never knew you had a thing for Eldar, huhuh!" Wolfhound laughs.
Ophilia shrugs. "They're creepy heretical filth, but I like the way they fight."
The Thanatar's atomantic reactor goes critical, bathing the deck in white fire.
Bekowski's eyes steel, a quiet anger at mankind's tech being knocked down a peg by xenos.

The Fireteam board the Elevatus, and begin the trip down to the deepest levels of the Mechanicus station.

"Down, down, to cogboy town!" yells Ophilia.
"You wanna go on a pilgrimage to Terra with me, Bekowski?" asks Wolfhound, "Once we get paid, it'll be my treat! We'll drop Vathrek off on Mars on the way there! Haha!"
"I'll do so, if you accompany me to Calth," says Bekowski, "Things I wish to look into there."

The Elevatus heads down, and the Fireteam stop at multiple floors on the way down.

"Looks like we're going to rock bottom. Er, void bottom, I guess," Bekowski says.

Finally, the Elevatus reaches the final floor, and the door opens to an absolute bloodbath / oilbath.

Lucius is starting to flash back to battles long past.
"... Watch your step." says Wolfhound.
Ophilia instinctively rushes to cover, alongside Wolfhound and Bekowski.
"In Saint Gerstahl's name, what the hell happened here?" Bekowski asks.

The corpses are all dead. some mechanical bitz twitch on occasion, but everything seems just massacred. Ophilia attempts to discern the cause of death, but fails to. Megh pokes one with a metal rod, to little effect.

Suddenly, the Fireteam get a codec call. The resultant connection is sound only, no visual.

"Hmm...you're making good progress towards the location of Excelsus, it seems. You've been doing well," says the deep, raspy voice.
"Thank you. Don't wanna be frag bait," says Lucius.
"I do believe you have only one piece left," the voice says, "I've taken the liberty of clearing the way for you here. Everybody gets one..."
"Thanks for the assist..." adds Ophilia, "And especially for letting us know."
"Glad we are up to your standards. You gotta a spare one of whatever did this?" asks Lucius.
"There is only one of me. You can call me...Deepthroat. Yes. That fits for now," says 'Deepthroat.'
Ophilia crosses her fingers for Wolf to keep his mouth shut.
"... And you can call me rimjob. WHO THE FUCK IS THIS?!" Wolfhound yells.
Ophilia sighs.
"Hey, Wolf, calm your ass!" Bekowski commands.
"It seems strange to use intermediaries when we are apparently not required," posits Vathrek, "My guess is because you wish to have a target on us rather than yourself."
"It does sound like our mysterious employer, dude," Ophilia agrees, "Y'know, the one who shells out our pay after every mission?"
"I am not the one who posted your mission, but I can say I work for them as well."
"Haha... Yeah, I recognize the sound of Deepthroat...Pfghgffft," says Wolfhound, making gargling noises.

"Right then. Who's a Genetor?" asks Ophilia.
"A genetor is a mid-rank adept of the magos biologis," Vathrek explains, "The branch of the Mechanicum that deals with living flesh."
"Shiny. Too bad we can't cart this lot," Ophilia flops a corpse's arm, "As an introductory gift."
"I don't even want to know whatever Deepthroat's job is in the Biologis," laughs Wolfhound.
Ophilia actually chuckles at his crude humor for a change.

The Fireteam reach a door that looks like it's been cut with some sort of chainsaw.
"Knock, knock!" Ophilia says. She is rewarded with the sound of jets firing, prompting everyone to go into overwatch. However, nothing comes out.

"Probably just Deepthroat, but better safe than sorry..." says Ophilia.

Vathrek enters the room, and finds the place is a mess. There looks to be a large terminal in the center. and boxes everywhere. Vathrek approaches the terminal, Ophilia at his back, when the lights cut out. This isn't a problem for Vathrek, Bekowski, and Ophilia, but it is for Lucius and Wolfhound. Vathrek reaches the terminal, and discovers that it's been destroyed. Dismayed, he looks up, after reviewing the wreckage...

...right into a black reflective faceplate. It jets back, with a surge of light, readying its gun, similar to Vathrek's.

The Thallax, armed with a Phased Plasma Fusil, jets back, but Ophilia nicks it with an Angelus bolter shot, wounding it and setting it on fire. However, two more Thallax appear, firing with their Lightning Gun and Photon Thruster. Lucius and Wolfhound luckily dodge the shots. Vathrek rushes up and punches the Thallax, while the other two use their jetpacks to leave the hallway so they can't be shot.

Jump-shoot-jump is a wonderful thing.

Vathrek is doing okay, while Bekowski advances to light the other two Thallax on fire so they can be seen. The Fireteam feel pretty confident, until the Ursarax charge in. Vathrek is immediately brought to criticals, while Bekowski is locked in combat, taking a Volkite Incinerator blast to the face and ending up in criticals. Wolfhound fires at the Ursarax with his Assault Cannon, the only target he can see, to help Bekowski. Lucius rushes in, power axe drawn, and cuts down the first Ursarax.

Ophilia retreats into the hallway, as does Vathrek. She however, stays in range to shoot all targets. The second Ursarax flies over the Fireteam to strike at Wolfhound, another Volkite Incinerator blast reducing HIM to criticals. The fireteam are getting worried now, as Lucius takes down the second Ursarax with his power axe.

Vathrek has warned the Fireteam of the remaining Thallax, augmented thrall troopers of the Mechanicum. Their weapons hit like macrocannons, and they are ridiculously mobile thanks to jetpack. The best part of them is Djinn-sight. They don't have normal senses, they just autosee everything in a 10km radius at the same time. They reduce the effectiveness of cover as well. He also makes allusions to "Wallhacking," and Ophilia does not understand until shots bore THROUGH the wall and nearly hit them.

Ophilia fires her bolter, taking down the Plasma Fusil Thallax, while Vathrek tosses a Haywire grenade. This luckily stuns one, while the other escapes. Lucius unloads with his autocannon into the retreating Thallax, blowing it away, while the sparking Vathrek tells Ophilia the wires she needs to pull to disable the Thallax. As she cuts three wires in the back of its head, she swears she hears a whispering voice come from it.

The Fireteam stop for a breather from their toughest fight yet. Ophilia hands her guns to Meg, who takes them without complaint, and follows the signal. Finding the needed code is on one of the Thallax, the Fireteam extract and combine the full data collection:

"1.2* (Latitude, Degrees, Declination) 340* (Longitude, degrees, Right Ascension), 65923 (Light Years, Distance) at 782,000 (km/hr Velocity)"

"I think working with you guys has actually had a positive impact on my mental health!" says Ophilia happily.

Lucius grabs the Lightning Gun Thallax, while Vathrek, Ophilia, and everyone else all pool their strength to carry the Photon Thruster Thallax back. Ophilia takes a metal hand from one and removes the faceplate from another as souveniers. Only a bleached skull studded with wires greets her.

"Emperor catch you as you fall," Ophilia intones with reverence to the corpses after looting them.

It's a quick rush back to the Phantomfish, and the Fireteam catches everyone else starting to leave. Everyone is celebrating a mission well done, as the Phantomfish docks at Studio 69. Lucius sits on the Phantomfish with his 'buddy' propped up next to him. Eventually everyone reaches the relative comfort of Res'var's. It seems another package awaits, a cool 20,000 thrones. But with three in the criticals, and everyone drained, bed rest is the order of the day.

My Fireteam has just reached Rank 6, and they are fighting bigger things as a result. They honestly believed that a cohort of Thallax and Ursarax would be a TPK, and it would have if they hadn't been on their best minds. Things will only get harder for them in the future, but for now, this double feature will include a combat-lite episode they had requested for a while now.

Lucius, feels a breeze on his face, as well as heat. He opens his eyes, and greets the day. The shade of the tree is comforting. The space-wheat is growing fine, and blowing in the wind.

"Lucius! There you are!" says Elodia, running up, "I was wondering where you snuck off to!"
Lucius smiles warmly. He gets up and goes to his wife, embracing her. "Just enjoying the breeze."
"I'm sure," she says calmly, "The food still needs to be boxed up, it's in the back shed. Can you grab a box for me? I want to give some to the neighbors."
"Of course my dear. Anything for you." Lucius says teasingly and goes off to grab the box.
Lucius's heart feels lighter. Like the harsh years have melted away.

Heading over to the back sheds, some of the space-wheat has been boxed up and ready. Lucius grabs a box, but then he hears a scream. A woman's scream. Elodia's scream.

"Ele? Ele?!" he shouts, rushing to where the screams came from. One of Lucius's former team members is advancing towards her. He looks pale and sickly though.
"Tortured Roar!" he yells. his arms shaking as he lurches forward.

Lucius rushes as fast as he can to get between his wife and his friend. As the former soldier advances, he can see his eyes, creamy white, and his mouth is foamy a fair bit. Looking down, Lucius looks down at the small armory he carries - an axe, an autocannon, and yet he doesn't quite know why. He levels the massive autocannon at his former comrade, firing full auto.

"Pained Cry!" Former Comrade yells, as Lucius narrowly misses the salvo. The Former Comrade charges, missing Lucius, but bumping Elodia a fair distance away, far more than his mass should allow. Enraged, Lucius draws his Axe, and unleashes a devastating lightning attack, slashing across the Former Comrade's chest and hacking an arm off. He turns around, rushing to his wife, the worst thing he could have done.

"ANGUISHED GROAN!" the Former Comrade yells, as he begins to shudder, more Former Comrades approaching fast. Out of the stump of his arm, extends a bony, fleshy blade. His heart grows, until it pierces his ribcage. Lucius runs, then stops, looking down at the bone blade piercing his chest. He coughs as blood dribbles down his chin. Crumpling to the ground, he sees the monstrous Former Comrade begin to lurch towards Elodia, dragging his blade with him.

"NO!" Lucius shouts, halfway between dreams and wakefulness. Bekowski half-awakenly swings around, pistol deploying from his arm as he nearly avoids falling off his bed.
"Hnnwhu-!?" he yells.

Lucius breathes heavily, coming to his senses in the pitch black room. "S-sorry... Hell of a nightmare," he coughs.
"Yeah, yeah, I get it. Just try not to be so vocal about it in the future, eh?" Bekowski says, as his pistol integrates back into his arm.
"Yeah.... Yeah sorry." Lucius mumbles as he tries to go back to sleep.

It is difficult, but eventually sleep does return, as does the artificially-induced "morning." The blue light of ZFR hyperspace is suffused throughout the Mercenary Quarter. The night's screams and gunshots transition into the morning's screams and gunshots.

Ophilia, in addition to the normal sounds, hears a humming. Gripping her rifle as her eyes slowly open, she watches Meg the slave, humming a tune while she sorts ammunition by potency, rarity, and cost. Upon seeing Ophilia stir, Meg quietly rushes to her side, awaiting her order.

Megh nods solemnly, and quietly follows Ophilia. Bekowski pulls himself out of his slumber, slips on the bits of armor he had removed, and heads down to the restaurant, giving Lucius' bed a shove on the way to get him up as well. Together, they all head downstairs, where the grills are going as always.

Lucius wanders downstairs, deep black circles under his eyes. "Thanks for the wake up." he says without sarcasm.
"No problem," Bekowski dismisses with a wave of his hand.
"Mornin'," says Res'var, "Today's menu is the Ta'nai, and today's special is the Midsummer Dreamer, a peppy yet nostalgic brew."
"Put me down for one of each, and a Ta'nai for Meghara," Ophilia states with forced cheeriness.
Lucius plops down heavily at the grill. "I'll take whatever you're are serving."
Bekowski takes his customary seat with a view, and says, "Not feeling that hungry right now, though I'll have the drink."
"Three Ta'nai, two Midsummer Dreamer, and for you," Res'var says to Lucius, "The Epidemic Girl."

Eventually, Res'var passes the food and drinks around, a series of meats and fried vegetables.
"We'll be docking with the Run'al Shadowport soon," Res'var says, "Probably in a day or so."
"I'm not familiar with that. What is Run'al?" asks Lucius.
"Way back, when the first generation of the House arrived in the sector, Korst'la I set up a hidden base on a border world, between the Tau empire and the Tiji Sector," explains Res' var, "But the world was destroyed. Must have been about 130 years ago now."
Res'var thinks a moment.
"Necrons, I think," Res'var continues, "But, the asteroid belt was still serviceable. The sixth generation, Korst'la VI, gave it to one of his best Detachments, and they really renovated the place to productivity."
Res'var leans in close.
"Imagine this ship, spread across an asteroid field," Res'var concludes.
Bekowski nearly chokes on his drink from the thought.

The rest of the Fireteam choke on their food, staring at Bekowski.
Res'var is no fool. He notices everyone getting panicky. "Well, be sure to catch the sights of Studio 69 before you go. The Ministry, for one, is definitely a sight to remember."
Bekowski nods, "Yeah, was planning on taking a look around the Ministry anyways. See what's changed, y'know?"
"You can sign up for one of their tours," says Res'var, "Or an appointment if desired."
"You know a way to get a nice tour?" asks Lucius, "Got a connection?"
"Just ask at the front desk, and they can schedule one," Res'var replies, "The best route is down the central skyroute, passing by the chapels."
"Hmm, we just might be able to fit that into today, actually..." Ophilia considers.
"Thanks," Lucius nods, dropping an extra 50 thrones on the counter.
"No problem," says Res'var.

On the trip to the Ministry of Truth, the Fireteam passes by the many drops and lights of the Mercenary Quarter. Traversing through a flophouse of movable pods, where the down on their luck stay until the next job, they eventually see a chapel on the side, in an alley. It's actually a very small building, nestled between what appears to be a small tech shop and a brothel.

Lucius pulls all of his comrades aside. "I have a request. I need to borrow some thrones next time we see that Merchant."
"Wolfhound still owes me three Kay..." Ophilia remembers pensively, "How much did you need?"
"Uh...6," Lucius replies, "Thousand."
"Throne, Lucy - what're you after with that kind of money?" Ophilia yells, aghast, "Don't think I can help you..."
"My family. I...I need to bring them here," Lucius replies, "I need to protect them."

A nearby bum wanders over, hearing talk of money. "Spare some change?" it asks, and is rewarded with a shot from Ophilia's Nomad.

"Ohhhhh..." the bum sighs forlornly as he dies. Ophilia dusts off her Nomad, reconsidering.
"Safe? Here?" Ophilia wonders, "I thought you were on the job so -you- could go to -them-."
Bekowski jumps back a bit. "By the Emperor, Oph! You could have just thrown a few thrones at him, probably save on ammo!"
Ophilia goes to pat down the corpse, but is beat to the punch by Megh, who has prepared a single throne and a sogging wet penthrift.
"So, uh, where we gonna stash the body?" asks Bekowski.

Ophilia seeks out a dark alley, but hears only a single word from on high.
"Mine?"
A Scourge swoops in, grabbing the body in its talons, and flying away. In the sky, a number of Scourges rip the dead corpse apart.
Bekowski stumbles back a bit. "Wh-what the...!?"
It's a brief but bloody rain.

Deciding they need some penance, the Fireteam head into the chapel, it seems like a quiet place, and well-maintained compared to everywhere else. It seems to be interfaith, to their consternation. One path leads to the Imperial shrines, another leads to a room with spiked statues of leering dark eldar, and the other seems to be a wide open meditation room. Everyone removes their helmets upon entering the Shrine of the Aquila Magnificus, but Lucius breaks off to the meditation room. Bekowski shoots a veiled look of disgust at the xenos shrines, as well as at Lucius, while making towards the Imperial shrine.

The Shrines to the Aquila Magnificus are empty, but pews are set up for quiet worship. Ophilia finds a candle dispenser, and buys a number for use at the shrine and in her own private worship. She sets the candles up, and lights one. She turns to give the rest of the candles to Megh.

Who isn't there.

Lucius takes a kneeling position in the meditation rooms. Tau script covers the rounded domed walls. He contemplates his place in the galaxy. He feels a oneness. An overwhelming sense of belonging with the universe and all sentient life.

The state is broken as Ophilia shouts all over the microbead.
"Aah! Megh?!" she yells, "Can anyone see Megh?!!"

Ophilia rushes out of the shrine, to see the door to the third room, the chamber of the Dark Muses, slowly closing. Rushing through the door, the spiky forms of the Dark Muses look down menacingly at her. Meg is quietly sitting against one wall, staring blankly forward.

"Has anyone seen a small chi-" Ophilia starts, "...found her."
Bekowski leaves the shrine, taking position in the hall if needed. Ophilia is frantically hugging Megh, trying to slow her breathing.
"Megh...why'd you go?" she asks.
"At least she was quiet when she came in, Mon'keigh," says a kneeling Dark Eldar in robes, a bowl ahead of him, "...unlike you."
An old Dark Eldar, kneels off to the side in expensive robes, in deference to the Dark Muses.
"I... Apologize. I panicked. It will not happen again," says Ophilia backing away.
"See to it that it does not," says the Dark Eldar, who begins his rites, cutting into his skin with the knife and letting the blood drain into the bowl.

Lucius rejoins everyone, and looks around the shrine. Busts of the Dark Muses, and the Bloody Handed God of Murder Khaela Mensha Khaine, the only patrons the Dark Eldar would pay "service" to. Ophilia watches the Dark Eldar chant, and cannot help but feel a strange pull deep down. If there really ARE gods of murder, paragons of poisoning, and masters of subterfuge...

"She has a lot more respect for these halls than you do," says the Dark Eldar, between ritual chants, raising the bowl of blood above him, "Then again, it makes sense a slave would."

Eventually, the rituals to the Muses and Khaine finished, the Dark Eldar leaves first. Ophilia and Lucius take Megh out to the waiting Bekowski. The Dark Eldar leaves through the door.

"It's is incredible you mon'keigh all made it this far," he says as the door closes, "You may find Excelsus yet..."

Ophilia blanches.
"I heard that too. How deep does the warphole lead on this one?" asks Lucius.

The Fireteam return to the Shrine of the Aquila Magnificus, Megh not straying away this time. She watches Ophilia carefully, mimicing her movements precisely. Lucius goes into the shrine and offers a token prayer to the emperor. Something gnaws at him, his faith in the cult long cooled, but unable to remember why. Bekowski, the only devout one, merely finishes his rounds of prayers at a shrine to St. Celestine.

"May your souls rest forever in the Emperor's Light," he intones, remembering a former team.

"So," Bekowski says as he maneuvers into the group, "Onto the Ministry next?"
Ophilia glances with guilty interest at the Eldar room, then shakes her head.
"Sounds good to me," Ophilia agrees, having Megh hold excess candles.

The Fireteam continue on, through darkened alleys, until the sky gets progressively brighter. Passing into a large open plaza, fountains flowing, the illuminated glass pyramid of the Ministry of Truth stands ahead. People are going in and out. It seems to be busy.

The Fireteam marches to the front desk, where a small female tau looks up.

"Welcome to the Ministry of Truth!" she says enthusiastically, "What can we help you forget today?"
"Uh, murdering Secutors?" Ophilia asks.
"We offer a comprehensive package deal for unwanted memories," she says, passing Ophilia a paper, "Please note that all thoughtcrimes that go against House policy may be erased for free."
Bekowski gently jabs an elbow into Ophilia's ribs, and changes the topic, "Actually here to make some memories, instead of losing them."
Ophilia falls back sheepishly. "Yeah, we were actually here for a tour..."
"A Tour?" the secretary says, "All right. 50 thrones per person, and the line begins at the Red Door."
Bekowski nods, his face growing grimmer at the continued mention of memory loss. "That acceptable with you guys?" he asks the others.
Everyone agrees, and together they head to the Red Door. Waiting is a large tour group, consisting of a couple of Tau in their armor, a few nervous looking humans, and a House Academy educational group.

"Why would anyone willingly remove memories? Sometimes those memories are all you have left..." Lucius sighs.
"That will all be addressed in the Tour," says the Tour Guide, a separate female Tau, "Now, if you'll follow me, we can begin. Do not hesitate to ask questions during the tour! House-approved questions will be answered plus-timewise!"

The Tour Guide beckons everyone onto an Elevatus, which begins travelling up the Pyramid. The first level of the Ministry flashes by, where a great number of cubes can be seen. Within, each has a sedated being, a helmet attached while a technician stands by.

"On this level, we process walk ins, appointments, and those who have come in willingly," the Tour Guide says, "Here, all memory rectification is painless and quick. A Technician stands by to monitor the safety of the patient at all times."
"What, uh, un-safety might the techs have to rectify?" Ophilia asks.
"Usually thoughts that no longer fit with official House stances," the Tour Guide continues, "These can change, and those who wish to free themselves of crimethink can have their memories altered to the current accepted positions."
"What is the most common request for memory removal?" Lucius asks.
"The most common requests tend to be missions that went wrong, relations that went sour, and naturally thoughtcrime," the guide replies.

The second level of the Ministry soon comes into view. This time, everyone seems to be screaming, and a number of Dark Eldar are patrolling the halls. Bekowski grimaces at sound of the screaming as they reach the second level, a bead of sweat forming on his head.

"On this level," the Tour Guide says, "We process the unwilling. These hold on to thoughtcrime, and can damage the official House position on certain issues. Since they chose to become thought criminals, they are treated as such. Here, the Nagi take a more active and destructive role within their minds, often leaving little behind but what is correct to think."
"Examples on... thought crime?" Lucius presses cautiously.
The Tour Guide smiles. "The very idea of thoughtcrime means that it should immediately be purged. One example, to use a rather innocuous and non-sensical one, is this: Let's say you always eat with your left hand. The order goes out that you must always eat with your right hand. We help people forget that eating with your left hand was ever possible."

Bekowski makes a mental note to learn how to perform tasks with his right hand, just in case.

"If criminal thoughts are found in those from the lower level, do they end up here if the try to hold to them?" Ophilia asks, looking guilty for a moment.
"The Ministry does not mind regular criminal thoughts," the Tour Guide reassures, "It is how the House thrives. What IS frowned upon is thoughts contrary to official policy."
"Do you have pamphlets on the way out?" Lucius asks, a little overwhelmed.
"We do!" the Tour Guide says.

"There are some that do, yes," the Tour Guide explains, "The HKSD, or House Korst'la Internal Security Directorate often accompany Detachments or take side missions. You never know who's a member, as they're usually undercover. Anyone can be one, so watch your thoughts!"

"So, how does your service compare to the Imperium's method of mind-cleansing?" Bekowski asks.
"The Imperial version of mind cleansing is far more in depth than our own," the Tour Guide replies, "We prefer targeted memory removal, our Inquisitorial clientele prefer clean slates. It is much harder for us to do the latter, as it places more strain on us and our Nagi friends."
Bekowski nods, the facts matching up with his suspicions. "Tell me, are there any possibilities of shards of wiped memories...resurfacing?"
"In a few cases, yes," the Tour Guide sighs, "Mind wiping is an imprecise art, and sometimes fragments may resurface. We, or our Inquisitorial clients, usually take measures to rectify this if it's dangerous to House or Imperial holdings."

He screams internally.

The Elevatus begins to slow. The tour group reaches what appears to be close to the top before stopping.

"And here is where the most important work is done!" says the Tour Guide, "This is where the sector's events are collated, scanned for inconsistencies, and released for public use. These 'Collected Visions' are then used as archival material by the House, and some say, even the Inquisition! What is released here can be considered the true and correct account of any events that occur in this Sector. We take great pride in our ability to exercise such recordkeeping!"

"Where can such records be accessed?" Ophilia asks, "...or can they?"
She notices Bekowski's panic, and passes him a corpse starch bar.
"We offer these records on House Archival terminals, freely available across the ship. You could also get them from private sources, but that can be somewhat risky," The Tour Guide points out.

The Elevatus does not go any higher, to level 101, where unpersons are purged. Only the tormented echoes follow the elevatus down as it descends.

Bekowski hastily takes a long swig of his bottle as soon as the tour guide is out of sight.

"Says you," Bekowski mutters, taking a long swig of rotgut.
"You alright, man?" Ophilia asks, concerned.
"Not sure I'm alright," Bekowski sighs, "I mean, there's the possible fact that I was wiped a second time without my knowledge, or maybe even more than twice."

The Fireteam are about to head out to find a seedy bar, to drink the sights of the Ministry away, but are interrupted by a scream over codec. Vathrek's scream.

Vathrek has been busy. He has decided that he wants the Photon Thruster on him, and begins the work. He first disassembles the bolter on his phased plasma fusil, but cocks it up, destroying the bolter. After shedding a tear and holding a funeral for the bolter, he connects the plasma fusil to the Photon Thruster successfully.

Now the hard part. He takes his narthecium, and injects himself with painkillers. Nonetheless, hacking off one's lower arm is unbelievably painful.

The Fireteam immediately rush back to Vathrek, finding he has cut off his own arm and replaced it with the Thallaxi weapon.

"What the fuck, Vathrek," Bekowski says in shock.
"My apologies, I did not expect the procedure to induce that much pain.." Vathrek responds.
An incredulous Bekowski can only stare. "You chopped off your own arm, and you expected it to NOT hurt!?"
"The good news is that my modifications appear to be working properly," Vathrek concludes, adjusting his Photon Thruster for personal preference.
Bekowski clutches his own bionic arm, thankful that he was unconscious for the procedure.

Megh stares at the dead arm.
"Whoops, werent supposed to see that." Lucius says as he takes her out of the room.
"She's seen worse," Ophilia shrugs, "You gonna do anything with that, Vathrek?"
"Dispose of it in some manner," Vathrek replies flatly, "If you wish for weapon upgrades, I can handle them now.

By now, the Blue Glow of ZFR Hyperspace has faded. Asteroids fill the view of the Mercenary Quarter. A great thud echoes across the ship, as Studio 69 connects to a large moonlet. Great tubes are connecting to allow mass passengers over. The Fireteam have Vathrek upgrade their weaponry with some minor customizations, and decide to head to Run'al, across the docking tubes. Hopping onto their Jetbikes, the reunited Fireteam begin to traverse the tubes, the thin shield against the void, before finally flying over the throngs of passengers, and into the moonlet itself.

Surging around the buildings in the hollowed out moonlet are the throngs of the sector's underworld. A maglev rail, pride of the Tau Earth Caste, surges by as the entire moon pulses with life and power. Great shoals of drones patrol the skies, as phantomfish transporters make their way around. On the roads, Raiders and Cuttlefish float along the highways that snake between the buildings.

"So, we know anything about this Boris guy aside from what we've been told by Deepthroat?" Bekowski asks.
"That he is a genetor," Vathrek recites, and I think that's about it."

Deciding that their best action would be to seek out any techpriests here (unlikely as it may be), the Fireteam first head to one of the local clubs, still intent on drowning out the sights of the Ministry. Ophilia loops around the buildings on her jetbike, catching the sight of a red blinking sign advertising AMASEC. Landing their jetbikes on the platform, the Fireteam disembark and head in for a drink.

"Good, good. Still need something hard after the Ministry."
"Ministry?" Vathrek asks.
"We toured the Ministry of Truth," Ophilia explains, "I liked it; he didn't."
"Bad memories. Or lack thereof," Bekowski sighs.
"I see," says Vathrek, not really understanding.
"The blues are...kinda fucked up," says Lucius.

The Fireteam brace themselves, and enter the bar.

Within the club, people are drinking and cavorting. It's well lit, and some are dancing in the center. There's a bar counter, where a Tau is serving drinks. There's people dancing. There's a group...flock...murder? of kroot in one table as well. Guards stand at entrances.

"Huh. I guess seedy bad guy bar isn't the style this year?" Bekowski asks.

Lucius picks up Megh, and takes her to the dance floor, swinging her around. The little slave holds on for dear life as she is swung through the air. Bekowski heads to the bar, and orders some hard drinks. Vathrek spends his time tuning a codec for Megh, while Ophilia wanders towards the Kroot. She takes a seat at their table, hearing their parrot-like chattering squawks stop as they all stare at her.

Ophilia toasts the Kroot with a friendly grin, but feels a sudden claw on her shoulder.

"Hmm...you have much nerve, or perhaps a high amount ahv brahvado, Opheeelia..." says a voice behind her.
"A little of both, really," Ophilia turns politely to regard the speaker, clearly a kroot, his face and most of his body covered in heavy robes,
"Eet ees about taime you have arrived," says the Kroot, "We wehre waiting for you all..."
"So you know me," Ophilia surmises, "And you are?"
"My name...is Thrax. Dr. Angkor Thrax," says the Kroot, "I can take you to the Genetor..."

"Might be better if you kept Meg here, depending on the Genetor's location," Ophilia suggests, "The Kroot will lead us there."
"All must come," says Thrax, "Eet ees important..."

Thrax leads the Fireteam down, deeper into the building. Eventually, a large bulkhead opens, and everyone steps in. The air begins to turn a sickly green, but the rebreathers hold. The Fireteam all seal their drinks as they come under gaze from a number of Galgs and Hrenians. The frog-like Galg simply watch with shifting eyes, while the Hrenians' reflective light armor merely maintain a silent vigil.

The Fireteam are ultimately brought to a side of the bar illuminated with a dull red. Standing at the countertop, the huge, robed form of a Mechanicus Genetor finally fills everyone's vision.

"Greetings, esteemed genetor," Vathrek begins.
"Comrades!" Boris the Genetor yells, "Velcome!"

"I don't suppose you have a version that can be consumed through a ration interface?" Vathrek asks, "The ascension of the machine has left me without certain... required parts to enjoy in the normal fashion."
"Look in potentia coil, comrade," says Boris, "There is fueling port on left side."

"So what brought a genetor all the way out here to this interesting place?" Vathrek asks.
"On behalf of mission provider, I extend hearty congratulate," Boris replies, "Mission Provider has authorized small gift, to show appreciation."
The genetor brings out two boxes.
"Tell Boris," he says, "Do you follow path of shoot, or path of hit?"

The Fireteam decide they have been very ranged-focused so far, and select Path of Shoot. Boris puts one box away, and passes the Fireteam a single long box. Within is a single long rifle, a wood-backed lever action rifle that shares some similarity with the pulse rifles of the Tau. Vathek scans the rifle, to better identify it.

The Fireteam look to each other.
"This time, everyone get!" says the Genetor.
"Might I inquire as to its function?" Vathrek asks, "While I appreciate any opportunity to continue the ascension of the machine, I find in this sector it always is a good idea to ask.."
"Function unknown, comrade, I vas hired only to install" Boris explains, "Who vant to be first?"
"I'll do it," sighs Bekowski, taking one for the team.

Boris takes him to the back room, where an impromptu medicae center is set up. He, along with Thrax, begin the surgery. It is somewhat painful. After an hour or so, Bekowski woozily walks out of the room. The back of his neck, and some of the back of his head, aches from the implantation of what looks like a strange MIU. There is no major cosmetic or physical damage otherwise. He is followed soon by Vathrek.

"Mind if I go next, Lucius? I'd like to get this over with... I never got any cybernetics before..." Ophilia shudders involuntarily.
"Yeah... Don't worry. It wont hurt," Lucius lies.

Vathrek's attempts to interface with the MIU seem codelocked. He cannot identify a purpose or use for it.

"You aren't gonna get the girl too, are ya?" Lucius asks.
"Do you vant me to?" Boris replies.
"I don't know what the hell this does," says Lucius, "Rather keep her...clean."

"Before I part with it, I would at least like to see or understand what my comrades intended to trade it for," Vathrek requests.
"Blind trade only, comrade," says Boris, "Element of...surprise."
"Archeotech like this doesn't come along every millenia, I'm sure you can understand," Vathrek insists.
"A Power Axe, Pulse Rifle, the Lightning Gun, and 1000 thrones," says Lucius.
"All zat, and 1800 throne," Boris states with finality, "Not one throne lower."

Vathrek and Lucius decide this is a good trade, and hand over the gear. In return, Boris hands the second box over. Lucius opens it, finding floating within is a long, bladed sword. It cracks with power. Vathrek once more moves to scan it.

The Fireteam, mostly drunk, reach their jetbikes. Everyone mounts theirs, Lucius dropping Ophilia on hers, and begins the trip.

This means Drunk Driving Pilot Tests.

Vathrek, who did not drink, is fine. Lucius and Bekowski miraculously make their pilot tests, but Ophilia fails hers pretty hard. She rams the side of a waiting transport on dock 1488, both her and her bike taking a good beating from the impact. After administering emergency aid to Ophilia's jetbike, one of the ship's ratings waves the Fireteam over. They carefully bring the Jetbikes onto the transport, and drag Ophilia in after the fact.

The Fireteam boards the waiting transport, and are escorted to their quarters, where they find that all their stuff is conveniently moved. Eventually the transport shudders away from Run'al Shadowport, and begins the long and lonely trek. Vathrek gives the Lord Captains of the ship the Coordinate, and a rumbling echoes across the vessel. After a few days of system travel, the transport enters the warp, on the way to Excelsus.
