Kord is supposed to represent Good and Strength, but I'd be embarrassed to fight for something so weak he can't even control access to his divine might.

Second, if getting the party on his side involved any "Its a witch hunt, honest!" from him, it'd be pretty obviously a lie. If they helped hom because they were evil, then hes now dead weight to be cast off.
In all cases, he cannot go around sullying Kords name, because he wields none of Kords power.
