I did for other games, specifically i asked for trying a Primetime Adventures game together and while saying it was ok to they made also clear they would prefer playing d&d. Heck i'm lucky they let me gm gurps but that's because i was able to make them play it before they crystallised on their positions over the course of time (sunk cost fallacy with what they've mastered plus gamestyle preference).

If you think it's fine trying to play a game with someone that begrudgingly accepted to partecipate you're in for a terrible time.

Supplement book, the significantly more rare one, will arrive next week.

I have decided to go to Best Buy today to get a better scanner so that the scans can both be higher quality and so I have less risk damaging the books

While I can understand the joy that comes from calling others retarded, it's important to understand that rulebooks are more than just the rules themselves. There's been a few threads recently devoted to slavering over the artstyle present in the Japanese D&D books, and I would have to agree that there's enjoyment in simply looking at a good illustration even if moonrunes aren't something accessible to you. Also important to keep in mind is that trusting in translations is retarded and you should hang yourself for thinking that a high-quality scan of the source material is a waste of time.

What are they called? Admittedly I just have all this shit downloaded, I've never piled through it.
I have the entire Core Rulebook in English, Character Sheet, The 2014 Holiday Package, all sorts of random sheets to keep track of shit like Battlefield Maps, Event Logs, Food & Water, Items, The Journey, Notes, various scenario and creation sheets, etc.

“ Ryuutama is pretty good if you enjoy traveling games. There was a guy shilling it left and right (probably ironically making fun of another guy looking back at it). At that point you might as well just homebrew them together into a third system. That set of instructions is incredibly straightforward if you have both pdfs. The only part that isn't 100% clear as written is that choosing a type refers to choosing between physical/technical/magical types in Ryuutama

I'm know, I'm talking about clarity in context of the instructions alone. Everything else is retard-proofed by saying which book to crib from except for the type sentence. A retard wouldn't figure it out until they actually bothered to read or at least skim through both books and stumble upon the Type sections. Someone with passing familiarity with Ryuutama but has only heard that FU uses Ryuutama stat dice might also assume that FU has Types under the idea that FU is Ryuutama but Final Fantasy.
It's just technical writing autism, no worries.

Let's break it down a bit

Not sure about this one. The max level/class is 10 in FU and you just get their Heroic skill. The exp requirements are also different in the 2 games but so are the ways of earning xp.

The "skill point" is basically gaining a level in any skill from any class. But if you go into a different class you can never get that heroic skill from either since you need level 10 in a class.
The last one isn't the opposite. In FU you NEED to start with 5 levels spread across two or three classes (so 4-1, 3-2, 3-1-1, or 2-2-1 level spread). What anon suggested is to just get one class at level 1. Also at level 5 and 6 in Ryuutama you get a second class (what anon calls backgrounds) and type. He suggests ignoring that. And at level 2 you get the Feint and Search actions. Get those at level 1.

In Ryuutama you get an extra class and extra type (or double up on your current type) as you level up. Saying to ignore that doesn't conflict with the earlier instruction to choose a class from each and a type from Ryuutama at chargen, anon.

Yes. There were two expansions for the game that never got official English releases. All the classes you see here are for the first expansion, which has been scanned for the first time ever in this thread.
Expansion 2 isn’t translated at all and will be scanned when OP gets the book later.

Spirited away and Mononoke Hime are the best and have a lot of story. Outside of Totoro most have story. I'd argue something like Howl's moving castle is pretty weird to watch for story, and Tales of Earthsea is just confusing (yea I know it's his son making it but still). But that's about it. Yea pretty much. It's really deadly. My first TPK was against a level 1 party in Ryuutama just messing up their rolls enough to die. I also definitely shouldn't have given them a combat. They equipped themselves for it, which resulted in a suboptimal prep for travel, and then it kinda went south.

I’m glad it’s a fun game. I actually haven’t played Ryuutama yet. As I said in the last thread, I went to a game store with a friend on my birthday and it happened to have a copy of the corebook, my friend saw it and bought it for me as a gift.

Maybe? I looked online and found that the extra classes are the trainer, the hermit, the meteorologist, the navigator, and the teacher. Navigator is one of the supplement classes, but I can't really find anything on any of the others.

Thank god I've developed a group of adventurous players over several years. If I ever feel like I wanna run a new system I just gotta ask them and like 90% of the time they're fully on board. We've played Vampire, Lancer, PF2E, DND 5e, Cyberpunk, Space Kings, and now we're gearing up to try Ryuutama next. What's great is that I don't even have to GM all the time. One of my players is busy learning Shadowrun and is going to run that for us next.

Travel equipment is from Ryuutama, weapons and are from FU. You could combine them, using Ryuutama armor as damage reduction and FU armor as your to hit number. But then you'd need to assign each FU armor a Ryuutama classification, which isn't that hard. You could do the same with weapons, just to use carry capacity, which, again, not that hard, since mostly they correspond to Ryuutama weapons and armor. Except Tomes. I just use them as size 1 though.

Yea, depends on how you do them. To TL;DR, them, berry farmer grows berry equivalent of herbs, but they also count as food, while the fisherman catches food, but can also drag up random baubles that can sell or even hire a fishing ship for cheaper. I did use the translated doc for that one.
I did also brew races, kind of stealing from Zeldatama, but instead of getting all three, I made four for each and you choose two (or one general and subrace, or one and increase a stat by one for Humans).

The same way you learn Japanese to read other Japanese books. You'd better get started now because Japanese fluency in speaking will take 2200 hours according to government. Coincidentally there are 2200 basic jouyou kanji that young school children learn and you're probably looking at another year for those with intense study. But Ryuutama isn't aimed at young children and I don't know how many different kanji are in it so maybe add a few months to another year to pick up those as you encounter them.

This thread has got me thinking about the viability of running Ryuutama but in Dragon Quest 11s world as regular people wandering and exploring the landmarks and towns of the game.

I think Ryuutama is a good system for a majority of jrpgs. I’d LOVE it for Xenoblade for instance

Original world doesn't mean better, it is what you do in the world that really counts. It would be fun to see famous places that I love from the world and how everyday people like a farmer may interact with then rather than a heroes party. Nothing wrong at all with it.

'Objects' refers to a specific mechanics of the combat procedure, which are like items/props laying around the battlefield which may be incorporated into attacks for a small bonus.

Regular folk go on journeys in anime fantasyland. Their adventures form tales which are “food” for the titular Ryuutama, dragons with some godlike powers.

Setting and tone JRPG / ghibliiesque / cozy but at times deadly. No “canonical” world
