Go to the Netherlands, dumb ass.
Start with weed, and remember you don't need the strongest most expensive weed if you're a newb. Even the "bottom of the menu" stuff in (better) Dutch coffeeshops is decent enough. I've been a part-time stoner for 10 years and even I take it slower with the strong stuff. Sativas tend to get you more 'high', so mental effects, for better and worse. This might mean stronger paranoia or panic attacks, even passing out (lower blood pressure) if you're not used to the effects, how you react, how long it lasts on you, how to dose, etc. Indicas tend to get you more 'stoned', relaxed, couch-locked, giggly, focused on things. I prefer indica strains.
YMMV, everyone reacts a little different. And most weeds on the market today are hybrids with a smattering of effects from either 'side', which is nice, but they still usually specific which is dominant (or you just know by the strain names, kush, haze, etc.).
Going from being a total drug newb to doing DMT, LSD or some or the newer 'exotic' synthier psychs is a recipe for bad trip. I guess people have done it and lived to tell the tale, but it's really not a good idea. Trust me. You need to at least experience what weed is like, even though it's not really psychedelic. It also tests yourself.
Once you're OK with weed, you can graduate to magic mushrooms (rather "truffles", in the Netherlands' shops). I'd do at least one medium break-through dose (preferably not your first) before moving on from there to other psychs, if you still want to. Maybe you'll find what you're looking for there. Mushrooms are weird but fun, even gentle, in low doses, but can really rip the scab off at times. They blow the way your mind's wind is blowing. If you don't know how to control that a bit, it's gonna suck.
I think it's important to "try" to have some mental control while tripping -- at high doses its impossible, but it provides some steering when you're launching off.
