Hey /trv/

Im a britbonger, booking a trip for next month in Italy. I've been Rome , Milan, Venice, Pisa and Todi before and Loved it. What are some off the beat locations I should visit?

When I'm travelling I like walking and history. Not a big nightlife lad. My budget is pretty much unlimited.

I only did the big three; Rome, Florence and Venice. But spend some time in Tuscany and explore smaller towns like San Gimignano, etc if you can.

Looked up Aquileia, Mantova ,Cremona and they all looked lovely. (Tbf I'm comparing them to towns in Bongland which are all horofic). Why wouldn't I wnat to go to them?

walking and history? why don't you try "Cammino di Assisi"? basically a "Camino de Santiago" in Italy following the path of St. Francis. Also check the more famous "Via Francigena"

Id recommend Ravenna if youre in to the local history. A day trip/one night stay is enough. The Basilica de San Vitale is impressive. Also get a piadina

Just got back from Vittorio Veneto.
Second time there, first time was English teaching five years ago, this time was because I told the GF I'd take her.
Would recommend, close to many other cities, historical sites, and stuff to do. Conegliano is 13km away and its surrounding areas are full of prosecco vineyards. Toni Doro, a twelve hectare vineyard that produces 25,000 bottles a year do tours and tasting for 12 euro a head and sell bottles on site for 8.
Vittorio Veneto itself has a population of 25,000 was the site of the final Italian victory over the Austrians, and has many war memorials and a museum dedicated to the event. There is an abundance of small churches and chapels, one of which, "Sanctuary Santa Agusta" is a 30 minute hike up a steep incline and has a lovely cafe and views at the end.
Plenty of weekend markets, hiking trails, lakes, places to eat out, and best of all, you'll probably be the only tourists there.
If you get fed up, you're close enough to take the train to Verona, Venice, and Milan. It's three hours drive to Austria, and Slovenia.
It's very underrated

Ok italabro's Im the original op just finished the first draft of my 20,000 final essay and thinking more practically about traveling next week.

Im Gonna be flying into Rome After which I'mj looking for a town in Tuscany then a town of the west coast before traveling to Bologna and then milan and am liking the look of either >>2235843 or >>2237505

Yeah exactly , just need to go somewhere, having been locked in my room for 6 weeks. Well done on the 25 , 20 has killed me can't imagine doing any more.

In terms of Traveling alone, I would give it a try. I loved it, can't imagine traveling with others till I have a wife. You are so much more independent on your own, can make everyday your own and not worry about ensuring other people are happy with the day. I'd go for it, since you are on your own , if you don't like it you can always just fly back.

Ticino is nice but can be filled with Swiss tourists.
If you want to explore Italian Switzerland you can also try the southern valleys of Grisons like the Bernina Valley (known for the scenic train line) or the Val Müstair in the tri-country area of South Tyrol.

If you like hiking, the Dolomites are hard to beat. The part of the range in Veneto is arguably the most scenic, and you can catch a cable car to the top (not the actual summit, but a short walk from it) of Marmolada. Prepare to be amazed. Also, in the Cadore area you'll get to appreciate both Pelmo and Lagazuoi, and there are more hiking trails than you can count.

For some truly off-the-path stuff: there's a village near Borca di Cadore, a small architectural marvel built by ENI (Italy's fossil fuel state conglomerate) decades ago to house their employees:

yeah i also like torino a lot, surprisingly. it will have the air of piss and mess all over since its a big metropolitan city, but its worth for the night life and the architecture. its like a better paris
