I’m not even joking, especially on the smelliness. I can see local’s being slightly visibly disgusted whenever some westoid who reeks of sweat stands by them. Sometimes I don’t even notice any bad smell in particular, but my Southeast Asian friends still comment “that guy kinda smelled bad” as if their sense of smell is more potent than us whites.
When you show that you’re a different bunch, which can be as simple as actually showering atleast once a day, wear something that is not a dirty tank top, and greeting the locals in their language and using the appropriate honorific, their respect for you goes through the roof.
And this applies to almost all Southeast Asians, it’s just that Viets in particular don’t usually bother putting up the bullshit facade of friendliness when they have little respect for you.
