They would have made more money suing Kevin than they did robbing houses. They also would face no jail time because the case would get thrown out due to lack of evidence. There is nothing to prove they are the Wet Bandits, and any evidence of trespassing is irrelevant due to the booby traps

Even though Kevin knew these guys were breaking into houses, that doesn't mean he can set up deadly traps around his house in preparation. Some of the traps he used could be triggered by anyone just coming up to the door. Castle Doctrine covers you using deadly force via an actual weapon against someone breaking into your house. Setting up deadly traps for possible break-ins isn't the same.
