While practicing the Silva Method, which is basically just self-hypnosis by another name...https://thepiratebay.org/torrent/8059351/The_Silva_Method_-full_course_incl_workbook
(kind of dated and makes outlandish claims, but works well for self-hypnosis)
...I discovered a good way to WILD (wake-induced lucid dreams). Since I've had what seemed very much like an OOBE while trying to WILD previously, I'll describe the process:
In the Silva Method, you're instructed to relax your body to quite an extreme degree, then your mind, then you go down into trance. You are conditioned to do this as you count down from 3: So 3=relax body, 2=relax mind, 1=trance. To condition your body to relax, you anchor a visualisation of the number 3 to a deep physically relaxed state. To achieve this state, you use a technique I've also encountered in yoga:
You lay down on your back, comfortably, and then begin tightening all the muscles in your body, starting with your feet and working upwards until all your muscles are straining. Hold that for a second or two, and then as you release, repeatedly visualise the number 3. I don't recommend you try this without proper guidance talking you through it as you go (eg. the course linked above). I'm an amateur.
Anyway, in using this to get into trance one night before sleep, I discovered I could quite easily achieve something close to the WILD state, which is normally extremely difficult, just by going halfway to trance and back again, that is, visualising 3 a few times as per the Silva Method, then 2, but then instead of 1, going back to 3. Body basically shuts down, mind stays alert, hypnagogic lights, that rumbling vibrating sensation, and... WILD.
Useful for any oneironauts reading, and maybe for you OP. There are a couple of good OOBE books I know of too:
Journeys Out of the Body, by Robert Monroe
Astral Dynamics, by Robert B. Bruce
