if you take it every day nonstop, your body will eventually produce less and less melatonin naturally
so if you try to sleep without it, your fucked until your body weans off of it

Try looking into valerian root pills, its purely natural and isnt known to be habit forming
I bought some strong ones from Argentina that knocked me out within 5 minutes. The only drawback is they stink and taste like rancid cheese

It's literally fine. Start at a low dose and work up, like 2mg, then 5mg if that doesn't seem effective. It is habit forming but only after a long ass time. You can always reset your tolerance though. >>23701162 is good too, but valerian does negatively interact with some maintenance medications (anticonvulsants, tricyclic antidepressants like amitriptyline, benzos, barbiturates) whereas melatonin doesn't. Do your research if you're taking any maintenance meds.

That isn't how it works.

There's one dosage level for sleep, and one dosage level which is much higher and used for health.

Been using melatonin for decades to counteract caffiene late at night. Works fine for that. No issue. The correct way to do it is to take the 1mg pills and then go right to bed.

Don't take it and go shower then do other stuff. Take it, shut your eyes and do that for 3-4 days in a row. If that doesn't work, then repeat and up it to 2mg, 3mg, 4mg until you find your dose.

This, it doesn't work like other sleeping pills in a way that you grow dependent on it to fall asleep. If anything, if you take it same time every day, it may prompt your body to produce it's own melatonin on that time so you won't need the pills at all.
