sup /adv/, I'm a university professor and 3 days ago one of my former students asked me for a letter of recommendation.

I don't want to recommend him. What's the best way to decline? He wants to go to some Asian nation to study, which I disagree with.

Should I just tell another teacher to recommend him?

Fellow professor here.

You have no right whatever to sabotage him just because you disapprove of his choice of school. But if you really want to destroy his chances, you know how to do it. Write him a bland generic letter - "He was in my class and got an A" - with no specifics and you will guarantee his non-acceptance.
