Is their a way to hook up my house, or many of its appliances, to solar myself without needing to get it fitted on the roof with very expensive handymen?

You can use those types of solar systems for general electrical equipment like your PC, but not appliances. Also you can’t leave those outside permanently. You’ll have to bring them inside when the weather is severe.

On the other hand, you can do solar installation yourself if you are reasonably handy and can read electrical diagrams. They make kits now which are permanent installations but are pretty simple to hook up if you know basic electrical installs. They can even mount to a non-penetrating pole if you don’t want to attach them on your roof.
