If I'm told to picture someone with sickle cell anemia and I picture a black person, this isn't racist because it's a disease that affects a vastly greater number of black people than of other skin colors, and is famous for doing so.
If the impressions we have and the way we visualize things are based on empirical evidence, and skin color is actually a relevant trait, it's not racist.
The trouble with the criminal association is that a police force that is biased against black people creates the impression of empirical evidence that black people commit more crimes, when in truth there will be more innocent people getting frisked for no reason, and criminals of other skin colors getting away with whatever it is they're doing.
