The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) is a non-profit organization based in Washington D.C., United States that is dedicated to distributing English translations of Middle Eastern media. Despite its goal to “bridge the language gap between the Middle East and the West,” it has been accused of anti-Muslim and anti-Arab bias in its material because of claims of incomplete or incorrect translations in their distributions. MEMRI’s most well known project is MEMRI TV, which translates Middle Eastern media (news, television, etc.). MEMRI TV has gained notoriety for its absurd translations of new programs, which internet users found to be humorous. Some of the translations have spawned photoshops of screenshots showing false or edited subtitles.
