This anti CEU action will one one consequence: Even more educated people will leave Hungary and not return.
And no this doesnt concerns gender studies., which is a fluke. CEU is a centre for economics, mathematics, statistics, international law. Lot of Hungarian history and economics phds studied there. CEU is rich, Its endowment is more than what several Budapest unis have together. CEU's library is huge and has access to all journals in relevant fields, and its used by other universities as students beause they simply cant afford the same access., Its connection network is enourmous and stretches the globe. It has an attraction potential and made many phds return to Hungary.
Math is taught by researchers at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, because CEU can afford to pay them while other unis can't.
Few weeks ago the education ministry forgot to renew MathSciNet subscruption, which is lifeblood for mathematicians.
And so Hungarian mathematicians had to go to CEU to use it for their daily work, being the only place in Hungary where it was legally accessible.
This is why almost the entire Hungarian academia and student bodies are with CEU, for both moral and practical reasons.
