rearmament motions in the HoC in 1938.
We went to war to protect a country we didn't really care about, that we couldn't really protect.
We certainly didn't go to war to save the Jews or because we particularly cared about Hitler being a dictator.
And Hitler showed on a lot of occasions that he real gripe was with the USSR and eastern Europe. If Britain and France had re armed but then not declared war we would probably have avoided conflict.
Going to war in Europe both in 1914 and 1939 were what took Britain off the world stage. Not kept it there.
