>>182228775I know it exists within the realm of science, I was speaking more in terms of social sciences. But even in the field of science, this exact same complex completely enthralls most people without them even realizing it. They may have a name for it,, they may recognize that a complex system is more than the separate parts they have isolated, but they are still completely dominated by this mode of perception. The reason is because the modern man is trained to know things in contrast to other things, which isn't bad unless it completely dominates you. Knowing a border collie through knowing organic from inorganic, mammal from marsupial, canine from feline, etc. Endless categorization, from the macro to the micro, Or as above, so below.
I think this way of seeing things has completely shut modern man off from any possibility of the transcendence. If you're completely bound to the material plane and are trained to know things as distinct from what they're not, then of course you will not see the underlying unity that binds all things, since that unity is not material. This is why metaphysics is scoffed at by the modern intellectual.
I will say, however, that this is useful in the realm of science because it does help us understand the physics of reality. But without that balance, without recognizing that immaterial unity, it is a double-edged sword.
Man has never devised a cage quite like this because there are no walls, there's nothing to lean on, and we are on a road to losing our last bit of reference point to the transcendent.I don't really see how this can be reversed; I think a major collapse is inevitable, even needed, at this point, to reshuffle the deck.
