Vaccine was supposed to help with symptoms and with that reduce spread. I believe most assumed it would completely immunize you, me included, and were pretty bummed when it gives a very strong protection but not a bullet proof one, but very close. It does reduce spread and it makes it so you don't have to worry about the virus spreading on it's own once a huge portion of the populace is vaccinated. That's the goal now. It's not to stop the spread, because we can't anymore, but to minimize health risks it does to people.
The problem is some countries like America have too many crazies who refuse the vaccine despite having no reason to. They cite it being unsafe, read crazy articles and believe pseudo shit instead of what we do know. So they are making the virus spread to the weakest of us and causing a lot of unnecessary deaths, usually to the people who are anti-vaxx themselves.
It's unhealthy people who are at risk with a small chance of healthy people. Death is supposedly rare but long term health effects aren't. Lung scarring, loss of smell and taste and other cardiovascular diseases seem to go hand in hand with recovering COVID patients.
It's shitty though because governments and health officials are bad at promoting vaccination. They make cringe inducing videos and meme's and can't come together to just be frank, while the denialist have all the ammunition and charm of your typical asshole who doesn't care much about being offensive so a lot of people side with anti-vaxx instead.
I don't think we're ever going to get rid of this fucking thing, it's going to become annual. It's up to you now to decide do you want to be part on the side of history that doesn't give a shit if this spreads to the elderly, to the weak, to cancer patients, to AIDS patients and are you really some kind of sociopath who doesn't care about harm done to others.
