Yes. Might take a little longer because of the cold weather compared to SA though. The media hasn’t thrown in the towel just yet but it’s over. Omicron marked the beginning of endemic covid.
Omicron will kill off all the other variants. It won’t ever disappear and will keep mutating but it will forever be a less virulent and a common cold. In fact, the silver lining here is that it will likely kill off the four common cold coronaviruses. Even though the media was fearmongering a double delta/omicron infection that’s actually not possible, they’re too similar. But there hasn’t been double infection with another CoV either. They’re also too similar and it’s probably going to lead to their extinction. Not only that, but the herd immunity will prevent hypothetical isolated variants of the original strain (like delta is) from spreading. And if a heavily mutated variant of omicron emerges it will just be another cold. Lastly if a novel CoV like another SARS or MERS ever comes out we’ll be better protected and it should quickly go away unless it’s been unnaturally modified by chinks with a FCS like they did with covid. Even then, we would still mostly be protected from severe illness.
Basically, from here on out covid is a common cold that will never go away but it will kill off the other four CoV common colds and give us protection in case to future novel CoVs if they emerge.
