In the beginning the balaur where made to protect aions creations, but then they decided to rule thwm. Aion the god turned twelve humans into ascended angels, they led other humans to ascend into immortal angels too under them. There was war between the angels and the balaur for centuries but eventually there was call for peace.
half the angels wanted peace the other half said they couldnt trust the balaur, but never the less a peace talk was called and a delwgation of the most powerful valaur lords allowed into the field to talk.
Nobody really knows what happened next but the tower was destroyed, five of the lords went to hold the northern part of the tower of aion and five went south the other two perished trying to hold ot together.
The world was split in two, the southern half gets light from a nearby star, the northern half gets only reflected light from the southern half.
The ones on the dark side eventually grew to have clawed hands and feet, their eyes grew to see in the dark and they grew manes to aid and help survive in their new frozen home.
The southern side became a virtual paradise, but this made the inhabitanta arrogant as they saw this as proof that they where blessed by their god aion.
After hundreds of years portals began appearing in the skies, eventually partiies where sent to see where they went. Turns out the portals lead to an abyss that linked both halves but was basically endless space.
The elyos came through one of these and upon seeing the asmodeans they proclaimed those living on the northern half to be subhuman beasts and started slaughtering villages. Its been blood war ever since.
