No, Tremere and Giovanni. Although I guess Tremere were closer to 1100, and Giovanni existed before that but became a clan in acceptance around that time. At least I think I have the dates around the right time.

The Tremere's ritual to turn themselves into vampires happened in 1022. Maybe you could make an argument for the overall existence of the house, which had been formed in 767, but I'd only do that to give a sense that the members of House Tremere existed before their Embrace, and were already pretty long-lived because magic.

The Giovanni were first embraced by Cappadocius in 1002, and he'd been trying to keep his bloodline separate even before his diablerie in 1444. But the family had existed and practiced necromancy since Rome, surprisingly - it's not clear when specifically, but anywhere from the start of the Empire to its end is fair game, so as a family they were at least five hundred years old before their first Embrace.

So if you really wanted to split hairs, as a bloodline Giovanni are older than Tremere, and as a mortal organization are older, but Tremere are older than Giovanni as a full-fledged clan. Though I'm not really sure why the Tremere weren't treated as a bloodline of the Tzimisce during their early days and instead accepted, if reviled, as a clan. Or why the literal youngest clan have such a surprising age and pedigree compared to the clan that should be older in all senses.

Yeah, but I was only counting them as a clan after the big bite which I think happened in... 1083? Before that they were just a bloodline.

So I'm playing as a tzmisce in a camarilla game, and through shenanigans as well as percieved revenge for being snubbed, I bonecrafted out a ventrue neonate's fangs, making sure they wouldn't regrow without assistance. Now the ventrue's willing to do almost anything to get them back.

My idea right now is to trick him into diablerizing some fledgelings i embrace for this very purpose, tricking him into a blood bonds as well; to get my very own vampiric slave of a generation only slightly lower than mine, rather than way lower.

The ventrue's another PC, so I'm wondering what you guys think of this plan; though my ST is pretty new.

She's alright I guess. Always angry as fuck, and after one quest you really never talk to her again until near the end of the game, and even that's only briefly.

I have mixed feelings on that about VtM. I should consider it a strength of the game that I don't have to regularly check in on NPCs again, but it also makes the game feel a bit lonely - especially when I'm constantly checking in to make sure I'm not missing any cool quests (which I would still miss because fuck me).

Gun nuts, gangs, paramil summits if you were poor.
But you are filthy rich if you followed my advice, so just hire them after pooling all your Resources 5 with your comrades. Most PC should have at least one dot in them, I always advice to have more, it's the most versatile of backgrounds, but if your group is decent you only need like two people with this background maxed out to provide for everyone else. Might as well help Ventrue/Toreador to shoulder the burden.

If the merc team is any good they deserve to be paid, equipped with the best gear and reside in as much comfort you can afford them without impeding their efficiency. Dominate is there to make them invulnerable to it, more loyal and more resistant to various other mindfucking powers, since only their officers are likely to have Willpower 10/10 and Iron Will 4, and you hardly ever get anyone with True Faith 4+.

Mind you, that's general vampiric advice, and one pretty redundant if you have Animalism or some influence in armed community. As a Tremere you have a dozen ways to make monsters that can rip apart the best mercenary teams you can afford, vampire and mortal alike.

unfortunately, after that furryblog was spammed the other day I read it, and there were a few points they actually had that worried me, of which the most damning were:
The brujah have gone from biker gang vampires to basically the carthian movement from VtR – I think a lot of people overlooked that because the furry was trying to make some point about neo-nazis, but on a more practical level the carthian movement was a mash up of bits of the lasombra, ravnos and anarch movement and doesn't fit in the cWoD at all, let alone as a replacement for one of the larger clans.

The other one was that they mentioned that the only guy from previous editions of vampire who is involved in v5 is that guy who was partially responsible for 1e's broken thaumaturgy and the ravnos and gypsy as terrible ideas, and who left before later editions tried increasingly extreme measures to fix those, which bodes ill.

As for preventing him from getting ashed... Honestly, I haven't quite decided. He's a low-ranked vamp right now, so people aren't super interested in him, and apparently there aren't many vamps who even have auspex in the area, so as long as he doesn't walk into a gathering or elysium then he should be good.

I'm not far from getting a Tzimisce combination power that lets me temporarily alter auras, though, so that should keep him from getting ashed.

That said, roleplaying wise, my character also just kind of wants to see exactly how the cammies would react when they find out.

Mostly because my character's view of Azhi Dahaka involves being a being that consumes/subsumes vampires the way vamps eat/come from mortals, and mortals eat/come from animals. Which means research into the amaranth. Metamorphosis!

A full skyscraper is more 5 dot. Though you might be able to justify it if it's an underconstruction skyscraper or something similar, that makes it a bit more reasonable for you to have a full run of it.

What the Brujah didn't change a bit from what they were before, they have always been "the learned clan" that's actually just a bunch of rabble or as the preview itself summarised look at pic related.

The other PCs- and some NPCs who were affiliated with the ventrue clan somehow- literally watched as I staked the ventrue to take his fangs. I think I made some argument about how the ventrue had embarrassed me in court and made me frenzy, and I was taking his teeth until I could give him a 'real' punishment, when we had time to, and they just kind of let it happen. As long as it doesn't cause Final Death, it's not against the traditions, right?

I'm really not sure why the other players/ST are letting me get away with half this crap. I mean, I probably could just pop them back in for a boon or something...

It was to the point where later, the ventrue apparently embarrassed his clan by outright begging for his fangs back and got a 'talking to' in private. But it sounds like he's got all sorts of social flaws and has botched a lot of meetings, to the point where his sire sent him out here to podunk smalltown where nothing is as important as in the big cities.

This is the storyteller's first game running VTM, though they've apparently played a lot of it before.

Literally no. Brujah were always rage the clan who were "rebels" in the sense of people with problems with authority, not fucking pro bono lawyers working for kittens who have wrongly been accused of crimes they didn't commit.

What's being described in the preview is not the brujah, it's the carthian movement wearing the brujah's skin.

What if I wanted to homebrew a bloodline of vampires that grew used to surviving in extremely cold environments, like Scandinavia, Russia and Northern Canada?

Yeah - I figure having it just being sleep is a bit too light of a weakness, since Tzimisce can get around their similar earth thing easy. Torpor is what vamps slip into in response to mortal wounds, as well as to pass away the time, and having to be covered in ice or snow means they can't just carry some around. They'd need to at least have a walk-in freezer.

Maybe that's too harsh? Could just double the time they have to stay in torpor if they don't have any ice.

Why? They won't die if they can't sleep, they just get extra grouchy, can't regain Willpower and get their dice pools bumped down to their Humanity rating. Also, what I'm suggesting is that they can preserve that natural snow, it would just mean that they have to be that much more careful with it instead of just sleeping in a fridge.

I think that's intentional, even if it is the one thing that bothers me too. Life as kindred IS pretty lonely unless you make close knit friends, and even then, just how far can you trust someone who can either benefit from your death for favors or devouring your soul? Just look at Jeanette if you side with her. Thinking about it, all the vampires in Bloodlines are pretty much alone in their night-to-night life, even if they have connections. The closest thing to 'family' you see is the Anarchs; and I'd hardly call them that, really, given Damsel is basically the doorman, Skelter the bodyguard/sherriff, and Nines an awed figure, while Jack skulks downstrairs and makes everyone feel a little uncomfortable like that one uncle. I suppose thats why people keep Heather and why what happens is a gutpunch. It's also why Strauss is so popular; he makes you feel welcome, and valued as you prove yourself, and you live WITH him the chantry.

Going through Redemption again I think Christof is pretty damn lucky, trials and tribulations aside. Not only is he of a relatively low generation, old enough to class as an elder, with the Ainkurn sword; he actually has a 'family'. Anezka, Wilhem, Lily, and Samuel. We know he reunites with Ekaterina who seems to hold more respect and fondness for him than is normal. Maybe even Serena if she somehow survived the fate of her clan.

I like to think so. 'Only Lovers Left Alive' and 'She Walks Alone At Night' are some of my favorite vampire movies of the decade for that reason. I also unironically love the first few books of Ann Rice's Vampire Chronicles because of the relationships between the characters. Beckett and his friendship with Lucita and Anatole are also a high point, as not all love is romantic, of course.

Something I liked from Bloodlines: that doomsday disease cult, the last guy you fight goes on about there being no Gehenna and him wanting to create an end of his own making. What >>60826542 says does indeed seem to be what they are going for, although this time something *is* 'different' because Demon is coming back/the Week of Nightmares still occured (it might even be the why of the Second Inquisition) and the Abyss cracked, so the Fallen are once again walking the earth. That alone suggests that an end really is due... it might just take further centuries, milennia, or even longer to come about, as a slow and creeping death or ascension.

I really hope V5 does extremely well and relaunches the classic World of Darkness completely, with an effort to make it all fit better than it did before. I was to see Sabbat packs mistaking a Fallen Redeemer for Saulot or something and trying to kill them. Mages and Princes doing politics. Woofs wrecking ghoul-run huma-farms. Pentex making the mistake of 'salvaging' an Earthbound without knowing its name or true nature before all hell breaks loose.

If they do it right it could be a better Supernatural than Supernatural. Especially given that show is basically Chronicles of Darkness in live-action.

Well, as far as I've seen they haven't shaken up the classic clans and their origins too bad, which is good. They're keeping to the essential spirit of Classic WoD, which is what I want and I think a lot of fans are interested in. I haven't really looked into VtR enough to criticize it, but it seems so vague and ill-defined compared to these long histories of conflict and camaraderie and betrayal. I liked the Tremere from what I learned in Bloodlines, but I loved their lore - this desperate struggle and clawing for power and recognition and clinging to unlife and magic, all built on shakey foundations that seem to spell their own destruction. Ruination from their own mistakes, it's fucking delicious and characterful and everything I like about WoD.

But, to get back to your point: if they could get it to all fit together more nicely, that'd be great. It's frustrating to read about how the vampires spread across the US and found their own seats of power, but then to also read about how the werewolves spread across the Pure Lands and have tribes up and down it, and did we mention the Baset and the Nuwisha? The last I like the idea of a lot, especially with their multifaceted deity and trickster-teacher archetype, but apparently their lore and book sucks and was kind of jarringly slapped in. If they could work that in better...if they could actually take account for the werewolves and vamps as a cohesive whole, alongside all that other stuff...

My only hangup would be Changeling stuff. I don't know much about how they did it in Classic, I only know about Changeling: the Lost because my friends got really into it, and it seems pretty good. I'd hate to lose that to a reboot.

I mean there are a few things that fit perfectly together such as Wraith and Vampire.
Werewolf also semi fits together with them even if it gets a bit rough.
I have no clue about Demon and Mummy while Changeling doesn't really impact much from what I can see.
But fitting Mage in there either completly neuters the appeal of mage or stops making a lick of sense, like why hasn't the masquerade erased vampires from the consensus.

Only Lovers Left Alive has become one of my favourite films, ever due to how beautiful it is. Not to mention the soundtrack being immense. Managed to snag a copy of it on vinyl.
I afree with you on Anne Rices novels, one of the major strengths of the series (up until memnoch the devil where you can tell she went off the deep end) was the extensive and deep love and relatonships between everyone. VtM is for being a salubri, tzimisce, settite, antitribu.

I don't know much about this game besides what's in Bloodlines, is there any reason for a Nosferatu to cause an instant panic the second he's seen by the public in modern times? Between people being too busy to give a fuck, cosplay, pranks, and the excuse of "it's a genetic disorder" i can't imagine that many people freaking out to the point where it'd break the masquerade. The only major problem would be from vampire hunters, and it isn't like they'd be bumming around in a Mcdonald's parking lot at 11pm.

* Generation is in, but it's combined with a BP-like mechanic, so you could have a strong neonate on par with a weak (low BP) elder. It implies that Gen still matters to stuff like maximums... but we'll see.

Malks are pretty good docs. The only ones that are better at it are Tremere with appropriate path and rituals. So long as either's interested in your well-being, course.
Generally:
Tzimisce: their discipline is good for cosmetic surgery, but most likely they will fuck you up. At best you'll end up as one of those fifteen fused into a vozhd and lobotomized.
Salubri: most reliable healers, can remove all aggravated damage immediately and without a roll, but can't do much aside from that. Just make sure it's a healer and not one of their four other batshit strains.
Malks: you're in for it now. Hope you've got one that's really wants you alive.
Tremere: can turn you into an Übermensch. Can also turn you into one of their monstrosities. Well, at lest they can be negotiated with, and either way you'll end up stronger than you'd been had you went to Tzimisce. Less braindead, too.
Giovanni: also good at medicine, but if you're under tender ministrations of one you're on your way to becoming another corpse in their service.

It sorta bugs me that the gangrel in VTR don't have vigor as a clan discipline while daeva do.

In this portrayal the gangrel are the vampire as the alpha predator.A big tough physical being connected to nature and the dangers inherent in the wilderness.It's the vampire as the old monster of slavic folklore.

The Daeva is the vampire as the corruptor. Dangerous not because he represents the unknown dangers of the wilderness, but temptation and the subversion of our very souls. Like certain versions of Dracula (Any post-black and white portrayal that heavily features Lucy) or Lestradt.

But somehow the Daeva is the one who can flip cars and run at mach speed.

Also, look up Mikhaili bloodline of VtR Gangrel. They're gone now, something happened during their war with Gangrel that diluted their blood to the point of extinction. Their weakness was falling in torpor for summer. They were able to store up the blood, drink it from long-dead corpses or frozen, and were invulnerable to the blood bond while their ability to bind others was greatly strengthened. All in all worse than Protean, which is one of the reasons why they lost to Gangrel. The other was, of course, being prone for summers.
They weren't to my liking, you'd be better off with Telyav, but I mention them all the same.

Good idea with ritual. In all my games I've made it so that Tremere could only embrace/convert through ToS, couldn't shake its effects even through Vaulderie or innate unboundability and were unable to embrace or be blood bonded otherwise. Just once (the idea wasn't taken to warmly by Tremere player) I've made it so they couldn't feed normally, only through Theft of Vitae or specialized ritual.

True Faith's main problem is its incredible rarity. It might seem underwhelming and pitiful in offence, but as it is TF4 alone is extremely good, rendering you completely invulnerable to all mental and emotional effects vampires can produce (Obfuscate, Chimerstry, Dominate, Presence, Dementation, Daimonion, Melpominee, Animalism, bonds, rituals and so on). Even ten-dot versions of them.
Not that it would matter much for a Teylavelic Tremere. Another option is to go can go with main Tremere clan, since they can learn all paths of Thaumaturgy-like sorcery anyway, but then you'd have to bother with Tremere politics.

There's yet another northern bloodline, Noiad, the Finnish bloodline of Gangrel with Auspex instead of Fortitude who cannot drink from animals. But all in all they're rather underwhelming and their weakness is incredibly annoying for someone of Gangrel's lifestyle.

As for expanding the effects True Faith, you might want to look into Mage's True Faith, Celestial Chorus, Knights Templar and the Inquisition. Their versions of it are much better than one defined in Vampire.

You roll a ton of d10 a lot, at least four times more than you really need to. The system is slower than D&D, but much simpler. Dice pools are mostly formed by attribute+skill, but sometimes you roll virtues or powerstat. Failures are common, botches are a bit less common. So is dramatic success, if you can get your difficulty down to some reasonable number. Any map will do, you can even go without.

Anydice is fun. I've just started playing V20 recently, and so I threw this together to figure out what probabilities I have to succeed in a given task.

Having a total of 3 dice in a difficulty-7 roll means you've got a little over a 65% chance of getting at least one success. Having only 1 dice is only a 40% chance. 7 dice is an 82% chance... but if you have 10 dice AND a specialty in whatever you're doing, you'll have a 92% chance of success... and usually an average of 3-5 successes.

The way I set it up is that I made a virtual 10-sided die that has a -1 (success) on one side, and then a +1 (success) on the other sides that would normally succeed. So a diff-7 dice has four +1s and one -1, while a diff-3 dice has eight +1s and one -1.

Anything with specialties gets a +2 on one of their sides, too, since that represents the 10.

I think you can buy the physical at gencon aswell.
If you just bought the core rulebook it should ship around that point aswell but the bundles are obviously only shipped when the other 2 release as well

To my endless rage while also understanding you can't send books that don't exist. they could have at least sent the core book out and just left room in the slipcase for it when they sent out the others. Bah, least I'll get the PDF version to read on my tab. It will just make the impact of the physical book lesser.

Vampire isn't prebuilt for using D&D-style maps and grids. It's much easier to do with abstracction (even though they do give things like specific ranges and such for weapons, or movement), but it doesn't have the D&D things of 'this creature takes up five 5 foot squares' type stuff.

I guess it's like those people who post all over that 'We don't need a new edition! V20 is PERFECT!' and they don't understand that, the new edition is meant to be the building block/springboard for both bringing in new fans as well as updating things for old fans, and also being the building block for any type of video games and future material. If V5 TT fails, there will be no anything. No Bloodlines-style video game, no 5th editions of anything else, no NOTHING.

So I hope it succeeds. But, if it fails, I hope Paradox just sits on the IP and does nothing with it, including cutting all licenses.

I'm saying that V5 is written to expand and broaden the brand, using more modern game design and trimming out a lot of the things that have been consistent complaints in many places about the OWoD such as 4-roll combat or inconsistent and contradictory rules (sometimes within the same rules section, like the infamous Presence 5-Willpower rule). It is also very much a business thing of 'if the thing that is the backbone fails, what level of monetary investment do we continue via other media such as the video game and such'. Look at Disney's response to the lackluster box office for Solo: all side project movies were cancelled indefinitely. And WW, despite being a subsidiary of Paradox, is its own company; they're not going to have the capital to invest in other ventures like the video game or their desire to do a Netflix series, or novels (which is the second most-asked about material) if V5 tanks.

I'm not saying buy it if you hate it. I don't want people to waste their hard-earn money. I'm just pointing out the most likely scenario if it tanks.

That depends, like with disney/Star Wars, Paradox/WW is a IP company just there to keep the IP in the mind of the consumers. I dont buy for a second that Star Wars movie were shelved indefinetly but instead that heads are rolling people are getting replace and they will revise their strategy.

Same here, paradox could come to their senses and fire Dracula and their whole main team of idiots with little to no experience to brag about. Then fire Hagen and kite (with his weird obsession with "muh government black helicopters). And replace them with a better team. If their goal is to keep the brand alive.

And from what I understand, WW is a subsidiary company and isn't actually managed by Paradox in any manner. I'm sure they could step in if they felt they needed to, but as it's its own company with its own management, I doubt that Paradox has the impetus to.

From what i got, WW only exist because the owner of paradox is BFF with Dracula and gave the company to him.

I can see them retaking the license and forcing them to close down or "sell".
