GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS SPOILERS

No.97629163 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
There was a test-screening for Michael Dougherty's GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS last month, and the audience reaction was mostly positive. One of the lucky few to have seen it shared this with me (WARNING: MASSIVE PLOT SPOILERS AHEAD):

Five years after GODZILLA, the world is aware of giant monsters and afraid of their existence, but Godzilla disappeared after the Battle of San Francisco in 2014. In Pakistan, a band of mercenaries break free the former MI-6 agent Jonah Alan (Charles Dance), from prison.

Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) is head of the now global and public agency Project Monarch, and is working for the United Nations. He and Dr. Graham (Sally Hawkins) lead an investigation across three locations worldwide that contain possible M.U.T.O. activity.

The first of these is in Isla de Mona, an island deep inside Mexico with a dormant volcano, the team stationed there includes Dr. Mark Russell (Kyle Chandler). A colossal egg sits in the middle of the crater.

The second location is at an ancient temple in the province of Yunnan, China. A giant cocoon is studied by the scientists including Dr. Chen (Zhang Ziyi) and Mark’s ex-wife Emma (Vera Farmiga).

The third and final location is in Antarctica where Graham, with the help of Monarch’s covert operation team G-Force, discovers a cavern with a large, three-headed creature frozen beneath the ice.

Mark and Emma’s teenage daughter, Madison Russell (Millie Bobby Brown), has dreams of an apocalypse in which a dragon wreaks havoc on civilization. She then receives another vision from twin fairies, warning her of the impending return of “King Ghidorah”, and urge her to awaken “Mothra.”

Madison tells Emma what she dreamt of, causing her to visit a deserted island in the Baltic Sea previously visited by Monarch. In the island, remains of a lost colony of natives include drawings and paintings of monsters that match the descriptions by Madison, meaning that she’s telling the truth.
